I would accept anyone who was near and dear to my family member as long as they were treating that family member with love and respect. (I would also encourage the "illegal" to take the steps needed to become legal)

I am one of those people who managed to find, date, and plan on marrying an illegal. My family has mixed feelings and it is understandable.

Consider the following particularly if you do not like the idea:
1. Is it a sincere relationship?
2. Is your family member happy?
3. How long has it been going on? Time matters.
4. Is it really about a green card? The family member should figure it out...even if it seems obvious to you.
5. It is going to help if you dislike them? It may ruin the relationship you have with your family member.

Throughout history, families have disliked outsiders. Sometimes, outsiders are foreign, different race, or a member of some group that the family doesn't like (religious differences). Those differences do not determine whether the relationship will work or will not work. Base your views on the person that you see. If the guy/girl is sincerely trying to be in a relationship, give them a break. Wouldn't you want the same? By the way, if they are not such a great person...point out the problems once...in a sincere and caring way. After that what can you do....people don't tend to listen til they are ready anyway.

I married a legal immigrant from Honduras. He is educated and cultured in the American way. His parents knew that he would have to leave his s*** hole country in order to achieve any success and prepared him to have a life in the US. He attended a private American school where all of his teachers were American and many of his classmates were too. He spoke nothing but English in school and Spanish at home. I would accept my child dating any nationality as long as they were legal and not Muslim(that is another issue). I would have suspicions if my son were to marry and Illegal because I would think that she would have an agenda to gain legality. But my Son is two and by time he is old enough to date we probably won't have to worry about Illegal immigrants from Mexico because they will probably be a part of the US. Or the US will no longer be united , Pennsylvania would be a country and I will be more likely worried about him falling for an Illegal from New Jersey.

Assalamualaikum (Peace be upon you) In Islam we are taught there is no compulsion in religion, so if a friend or family member were to decide they no longer wanted to be Muslim and it was a final decision they made purely on their own based on a thorough investigation and they were 100% certain about it, I would then only be forced to probably accept it but it would still be hard to accept though and I would still continuously try my utmost to intellectually teach the person that it is the wrong move and get them to change their mind about it before they commit. And Allah knows best May Allah provide us with guidance Salaam

Absolutely not! There's already too many illegals that can't speak English, and weigh our government programs down! It's the whole reason everything is listed in Spanish as well as English now!

I would call the INS and then tell my kid to Move to Mexico if they really cared.

But look at your question. You say someone from Mexico, then you assume or define that as meaning illegal. They are not the same.

Yes, I always thought that I wouldn't because I always had this thought in my head that they would just be using my family to stay here. Now my sister is dating a Hispanic and they have a beautiful little girl. Even though their relationship is not perfect, but whose relationship is?
