there are alot of things you can do to save money in these departments. depending on where you're having your location. if you absolutely have to have a caterer, often a buffet is cheaper...or you can have only hors d'oeuvres. if its more of an informal wedding, ive known alot of people to have friends or relatives to make the food and turn it into a buffet. sometimes the guests will never know. the dj can be pretty important if you want everyone to get up and dance, otherwise why not just make a cd that lasts a few hours and have someone in control over it. just remember to make a copy just in case. the photographer, have a family member or friend take pictures and have another one video tape it as well. As for the dress, davids bridal often has $99 sales. also alfred angelo and jessica mcclintock have some for a few hundred dollars. remember that youre only going to wear the dress once and it will look beautiful no mater what. hope this helped! congrats and good luck

well you want a great photographer- its alot of money. get references and be picky. alot are overpriced and are not as good. make sure you know how long they will stay. ask your friends to take pics too- and def video!!!!
food- simple is ok.. nice desserts. fingerfoods, you dont have to feed 200 people a steak. plan a time when people wont be starved and let them know on the invites if you will only have cake, etc. so they dont come hungry. watch out for buffets.. people can be really obnoxious sometimes. Have servers monitor a little. I have been at the end of lines where nothing is left and the people in the front of the line stack their plates to the ceiling..rude!
dj- true it is only one day, but this keeps guests informed and happy and takes alot of pressure off you. Its one day but most people remember the dj more than anything else. this was researched. was the wedding fun? the food, pics and dress really dont influence that too much. Again, be picky and be sure of what they will play or not play and who actually will come to your wedding (some companinies have DJ fleets).
dress- depends on you.. I personally could never spend tons of money on a dress that I will wear once. But if it makes you feel good, go for it. Its like 1000 for me or 1000 for the guests to have good food.. a choice.
try booking on an off day like a sunday or a friday.. or not in peak wedding season like summer or december. Get a used dress or a rental. go to bridal fairs and book early. good luck.

Depends...do you have a friend who takes great pics? Maybe someone who is an amateur DJ. A friend of ours took the photos...they were brilliant! Cost nothing...it was our wedding gift from her. We had finger food...didn't want the sit down meal thing, so that cuts costs. The DJ made it...a good selection of songs had everyone dancing all night...people still say it was a great night....BUT, we were lucky to have a friend who was into photography. Work out your preferences and go from there....definitely dress is at the bottom...brides look beautiful in anything! All the best.

A picture is worth a thousand words... so photographer gets my vote.
I was lucky to get my dress for $500.00 and we are thinking of just having an h'ors d'oeuvres reception to keep the food cost down. The DJ was nixed and we have loaded our favorite songs onto MP3 and will have continuous music we love all night long.
But... photos are soooooo important - they capture this special day for the rest of your life together so, definitely don't skimp in this area. I know that we won't be!

The dress you can pick up cheaply, most DJs are reasonable. I regret having spent so much on professional photography, but I think the food at the celebration is important - it makes it a special time for everyone. It doesn't have to be fancy, though!

I would splurge on the food. A fun idea for photos is to have guest take photos of eachother by leaving disposable cameras on the tables...also do you have any friends that enjoy photography? Ask for help!
