There are 4 blood groups- A, B, AB and O.
Every blood type has its antigens and its antibodies. Blood Group A has antigen A, and antibody B. This means that this blood group can receive blood which is only group A, but if it receives group B, it agglutinates, or makes clots, which can result in the death of a person.
The same way, B has antigen B, and antibody A.
AB blood group is considered universal recipient. It can receive blood from any blood group, but can donate only to AB. Thus it has antigen A, B and no antibody.
Blood group O is the universal donor. It can donate blood to all blood groups, but can receive only from O. This means it has no antigens, and has antibodies A and B.
No blood group has antibody against blood group O.
This may seem complicated, but is very simple.
In addition to this, there is the Rh factor, that is the positive or negative sign after the blood group. A person can receive blood only from the same Rh factor blood group, that is A+ can receive blood only from A+ or O+. But, O- can donate blood to all, irrespective of the Rh factor. So, A+ can receive blood from A+, O+ and O-, but can donate blood only to A+.
The blood groups are heriditary.
Hope you got the answer to your question.
