Outdoor weddings are beautiful. But you should have an altenate location in case of rain. It would be a shame to send all those guests on there way and re-invite another day.

Each option has its merits and drawbacks. There have already been some good answers so I would just echo the others and say if you want it outdoors have a tent and or a backup plan.
I would say, to be sure you get as many of your photos done before the ceremony. My sister had the photos , all the staged family ones done after the wedding and she missed half the reception due to the photo shoot. so pre plan the timing of your photos and allow for more time than you think it will take.
You could have just the ceremony outside and the reception inside where you have AC climate control.
You need to consider the ages of the guests and any special needs anyone may have. Have fun planning that is fun all by itself.
You have almost a year to decide so start seeing what places are available and how much they cost. and go from there.
Indoors or out all weddings can have problems come up. All you can do is plan out the details as best you can and hope for the best. If you go with outdoors and the weather is awful it just gives you a story to tell and laugh about 10 years later.

My fiance and I are getting married in may of 2007, We are planning on an outdoor wedding, we think that they are much more beautiful than indoor, and also more unique. The location that we have chosen also has a place that we can go in doors in case it starts to rain. I would find something like this, It could be a little more expensive because you are technically reserving two wedding locations but it is worth it. You only get to do this once(hopefully) make it the way you want and a day that you will remember forever.
good luck and congratulations

When trying to decide if you want to have an indoor or outdoor wedding I suggest looking at what the weather is like in May for the past few year and then go from there. If May is a rainy month where you live.... stick to inside. Because after all, even if it doesn't rain on your wedding day it may rain the day before and then you will be stuck with muddy, soggy, yucky terrain..... no one wants that with their beautiful white wedding dress!!

The key word here is May, and the unanswered question is where do you live? Where I live, in May it could either be snowing or it could be 80 degrees, so outdoors is totally out of the question. Too unpredictable. With your special day, the best advice is to keep the uncontrollable to a minimum. You cannot control the weather, so if you have a decent option for having it indoors, that would eliminate a big worry from you the week of the wedding.

May weddings can be held outside and not be worried about rain. Outdoor weddings should always have a back up plan. If it's possible hold the wedding outside near the reception location that way you can move inside if their is bad weather. Go ahead and have your outdoor wedding just plan ahead.

You don't say where you are getting married. That makes it a little more difficult. Getting married in Portland, OR in May would be a 75% chance of rain, I'd guess. Getting married in San Diego would probably be around 10%.
I got married outside in April. It rained all week and then the skies cleared for our wedding.
If you want an outside wedding, then plan on one. Just make sure the caterer is prepared with umbrellas and tents.

If your dead set on having an outdoor wedding, make sure you have it at place where there is covering or a building that can be used to seek cover in case of the unexpected down pour. For my niece we had a beautiful garden wedding that had a reception hall on site so we rented both places just in case of rain. It turned out beautiful and we didn't have to go very far for the reception. The kids had a place to get away from the adults, and it didn't cost much to decorate the gazebo because nature took care of that. GOOD LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS

In doors. We went through this with our daughter's wedding, we live in Florida on the beach. You can some pictures taken outdoors later on. If you have it outdoors you don't know what the weather will be like that day, it could be the worst rain storm of the century. If it gets too hot it will be rough on the older people, you have to deal with the bugs (mosquitoes). People will be dressed up, already hot, and end up sweaty and miserable when they go to the reception.

i just got married july 1st and our wedding was outdoors. the forcast was perfect ... no rain .... nothing. then as i am getting ready i hear thunder and when i look outside it is pouring. luckily it was just a really short shower but it was just out of no where. my family was able to go back outside and clean off all the chairs and dry everything and bc of the rain it cooled it off some too. it turned out beautiful. they say its good luck on your wedding day. i would definately have a backup plan in case they do predict its going to be a bad day but just have faith and go for it. as long as you and your future hubby are there together to make those vows ... who cares what happens the rest of the day! =)
