AGREE! I live in Australia and I reckon people shouldn't be allowed in the country unless they can speak and read english.
You got people who can't read causing accidents because they cant read road signs, etc, and seriously, if someone wants to come to our country they should abide by our culture and regulations and laws and stuff, not do what they want.

In practice, it's much harder to learn a language if one has not begun at a young age ... The real question is whether country A reciprocates fairly in equally permitting citizens from country B to relocate there, earn money (if desired) and make little or no effort to embrace the language and culture of country A. It wouldn't seem fair, but perhaps history proves that nothing is "fair" and that large poulation migrations are really the core substance of human history. How did countries A and B come to exist in the first place? There will come a day, no doubt, when national boundaries cease to mean much, however difficult that is to imagine at the present moment.
Of course, if schools everywhere offered a single year of Esperanto, which is easy and logical, everyone would possess the same second language and be able to communicate quite well. All areas would continue to use their native languages, and only make a single translation to Esperanto for those who don't know the local language that well. Something to consider...

Everyone should know how to speak english fluently, just like if I was to go to a foreign country to live and work I would have to learn their language to get by. I am not saying that you can't know your native language but at least learn ours.
Thank You!

I agree. I can't understand how people living 20+ years in the US
haven't learn English. Maybe because they keep eating tortillas.

Agreed! notwithstanding technically the U. S., have self assurance it or no longer, does not have an respectable language, our government could make it a factor to bypass a regulation making English the respectable language. "Press a million for English", could not at all be a factor of our lifestyle.

AGREE!!!! The government needs to quit catering to them, too. If kids are going to be taught English in school (K-12th grade), then my children should have the opportunity to learn another language in all of those grades as well.

Amen. If you come here, learn the language. I shouldn't feel like I'm in some other country when I go to McDonalds.
