I am over the age limit of 22 years and don't live in Switzerland. Currently I live in Germany and am an Amercan citizen.

Well, not because of your step father, sorry!

If you'd become a German citizen you were allowed to live Switzerland (almost) automatically by taking a job in Switzerland - then within 10 years (depending on the Canton) you may apply for the Swiss citizenship.

To get an immigration permission as an American, is a bit difficult - you or your employer would have to prove your special knowledge that can't be achieved by employing someone living in Switzerland or the EC already...

No, you cannot become a Swiss Citizen, unless you now marry someone Swiss. If you were dependant on your Step Father, you may have a chance, but you are an adult yourself now, so you wouldn't be granted Swiss citizenship just because your Stepdad is Swiss
