It's not so much women who are obsessed as guys--have you ever seen a guy pass up checking out a woman who is made up and dressed to the nines in favor of a woman who cares more about something other than her appearance? Even if a guy really wants and eventually meets a Ms. Right who is not interested in vanity, I guarantee that he has never commented that such a girl was "hot" or tried hard to chat her up in a bar. If you believe that women are obsessed with appearances, you are telling me that you are looking only at those women who are.

I can't answer for all women. That being said...

1. Society has done it's part to create and "ideal" woman, and also to make sure women grow up thinking they need to aspire to it. Don't get me wrong, society has screwed men over to, just in a different way. Men have to be strong, macho, etc., while women are taught are taught to be feminine, beautiful, well dressed, etc.

2. For some women, it is actually fun. Trust me, there are some days I wake up and don't feel like wearing makeup and doing the hair, and getting all dressed up (so I don't), but there are some days where, yes, I actually enjoy it. Really. And I am a feminist.

3. This society is also a very visual one. First impressions are usually make on looks alone. If anyone, but especially a woman wants to make it in the professional world, she has to look the part. When one's job partially depends on looking and dressing well, one tends to become obsessed about it.

A SIDE NOTE:
Many, many women (probably more than guys realize) do not dress up for men, but for OTHER WOMEN. Guys may compete with their cars, jobs, etc., but for alot of women it is who has the best outfit, who got the best deal, who is the prettiest, etc. Another thanks to society; men generally compete with success while women generally compete with looks and style.

Because society makes such a big deal. It's like body image, if you subscribe to the idea that looking good is important, then you will do anything to lose weight. It's the same with clothing, if you buy into it, then you will feel the constant pressure to dress perfectly. It's hard to stay away from, too. Even as a girl who tries to fight society's norms and rise above gender stereotypes, I get sucked in sometimes.

Do you ever see an gruesome female because the movie star of a romance movie. seem at some magazines. the different web page tells you that in case you do not placed on makeup you're a looser. those who placed on too a lot makeup are insecure or have not been taught the thanks to stay with makeup. the kind difficulty to do is to , very lovingly tell her how notably she is without the makeup.

Society has made it that way. Women are concerned about what people think when they look at them and because most of the women who are "desired" are thin and "perfect" looking, they want to look that way too.
