Oh..having an exchange student is so fun. My husband and I just got done hosting a boy from Denmark, and next month we are getting one from Germany. Yes, single parents can become host families. The program we go through is called STS/IntoEdventures. The website you go to is:

www.student-management.com

After you go there, look to the left, and you can click on IntoEdventures. I live in Arkansas. If you want more info. That website should tell you everything you need to know. However, if you want any more questions answered, you can email me at hollyrenee21@yahoo.com

The only qualifications is having a bed for the student to sleep in and you have to provide food at home. They are responsible for personal expenses, and spending money. You can host students for one semester, if that is what you like. A representative will come to your house for an interview, and to look around to make sure you are as you say you are.

I do`nt know what the rules about having a foreign student staying with you are over there, but in the U.K the people you register with come and inspect your property to make sure It`s suitable, as for worrying because it`s just you and your dad I can`t see that being a problem as single people can even adopt a child now, so I can`t see that it would make a difference. Sorry if this is not to helpful I have tried good luck
