Alkaline batteries are only for emergencies. They have a VERY short life in all digicams. It is unlikely that anything is wrong with your camera.
Get NiMH rechargables. They should be rated at 2100 ma or higher for AA's. They last for 200 - 400 shots depending on your camera. Then you just recharge them.
Cost ranges from $18 (at Costco) to $50 for 4 to 6 AA's and a charger.
Good Luck

The Kodak Camera Dock is compatible with all Kodak DX-series digital cameras, and includes a USB port for the fast and easy transfer of pictures from camera to computer. Each Kodak DX camera comes with a custom insert to allow it to fit into the Camera Dock. Once the camera has been inserted into the dock, simply push one button to transfer your images to a computer. Meanwhile, the dock will recharge the camera's battery pack and act as its power supply. The dock comes with a rechargeable battery pack for your DX camera, and your camera can be stored in the dock any time so it is always charged and ready to go. An LED display indicates the status of picture transfer and battery charging. The camera dock comes with a one-year warranty. Included in the box are the dock, a 7-volt AC adapter, rechargeble battery pack, and a Quick-Start guide.

Summary: Faulty charging
Comment: Does not fully charge Kodak batteries or 3rd party NIHM correctly. You are better off buying a simple NIHM charger for $9.99.

Summary: Not recommended
Comment: When I first got my Kodak digi cam I loved it! I recommended it to everyone! But now after using it for only a year, when I take it off the docking station, I am able to take only one shot before the camera battery dies. I have purchased a new battery which worked great after the first charging, and then I experienced the same behavior with the battery again. My Dad has the same model with the same problem.
I read in someone else's review that the camera battery will work longer if it's not left in the docking station. If that is the case, then what is the purpose of the docking station? I do not recommend wasting your money on this camera. Especially when the picture quality is not what you would expect from a company such as Kodak.

Summary: I thought I was the only one having problems.
Comment: I'm glad to read that I'm not the only one. Some people here are reviewing this product as the be all that ends all and well frankly I'm having some problems. To give you some background, I didn't buy the product because it was easy to transfer photos, I work with computers every day and plugging in a cable is not that difficult for me to spend 70 bucks. I bought this thing because it CHARGES batteries and it came with an extra battery. I'm a firm believer that when you go on a trip you are not going to want to bring everything along with you and you never know how much you will want to use your camera so I alway bring extra everything.
One of the problems is that they include a rechargible battery with the camera, but give you no means of charging it, and they tell you not to use any regular batteries.
Well now it appears that my EASY share docking station does not charge the battery that came with the docking station. It charges the one that came with my DX3900 camera, but not the one that came with the station. The battery is dead, the camera tells me so, so I plug the camera up to the docking station, it says "battery level good" I unplug the camera, turn it on, the battery level light flashes and the camera promptly dies and turns off. Immediately plug the camera back into the docking station, it tells me "battery level good" and does not charge the battery.
Whats more I read a review on amazon.com about my camera that said that Kodak told the reviewer that the docking station will actually drain the battery if you leave the camera on the station too long when it doesn't need to be charged.
The lesson learned...I'm going to buy another battery, because the one that came with my camera doesn't have a very good batterly life. I'm going to charge it initially and be very careful how long I leave it on the charger. If I have any more problems, I'll be sure to edit this review and air my complaints.

It may just be the nature of the beast. Digitals have always had this problem to one extent or another. One thing you might be able to do to extend battery life is turn off the lcd display on back, or limit the amount of time it's on. Use it only for reviewing pictures and then only for a couple of seconds. Use the cameras optical viewfinder to take the pictures. The other answers about using lithium batteries, rechargables, and a recharger are also good ideas.

That happened to me the first time I tried to use regular batteries in mine. My photography teacher told me that disposable batteries are not strong enough for digital cameras. You should either buy the kind that are made specifically for digital cameras or buy a rechargeable set with a charger (that would be the cheapest)

some digital cameras as only battery hogs. I had one that could circulate with the aid of a series of batteries in an afternoon. in spite of the shown fact that, you may desire to attempt categories of batteries. Lithium batteries are high priced, yet they have various potential. in spite of the shown fact that, you may desire to get some gadgets of NiMH rechargeable batteries, which might end the persisted cost of feeding batteries on your digicam despite if it could nonetheless be an inconvenience.

well a camera battery has a computer chip in them, never charge a battery in a camera when it is only half used. wait until the battery is just about dead before you charge. that tells the computer chip that the batt, is almost dead and to charge, now on your camera it should say when batt is charged , when it says that take off charger right away ,,it shortens life when you charge at half way. now with the trouble you are having replace the batt, its life is done. follow directions i stated

i have one of those cameras & its just normal my batteries die pretty quickly also but i just turn it off when i dont use it so that the battery wont die so quickly. but another thing u could do is buy a battery charger & when your batteries go dead just charge them & put them back into your digital camera.

You should use rechargeable batteries, or batteries made specifically for digital cameras (Duracell has a new kind out). They last a lot longer.
