The size of the Earth and all the meteorites in space and comets, why do they not strike the earth. I know it's said the smaller ones do all the time and burn up, even many do hit the soil, but the huge ones that could cause the end as we know it. It seems odd to me that we plan and go about with our lives and seldom think of this, could it be there is a God caring over us? Could it be when we have droughts and prayers all over by farmers etc and here comes the multiple inches of rain as well hurricane rains.

God's creation is full of wisdom. Jupitor is so large, that its gravitational pull attracts almost all of the space debris and meteorites that could come into contact with the earth. Coincidence?

The moon acts as a counterbalance to keep the earth rotating on its axis without wobbling (like a weight on a car wheel would keep the tire from shaking)

The earth is the perfect distance from the son, any closer and the earth would be too hot for life, and any further away, the earth would be too cold.

This is a very good question. Yes, I believe God is protecting the Earth; but not in the way that you think.

People will say we have a moon that protects us or other planets, maybee even the sun.

In my opinion the truth of the matter is simple. When God made the Earth, God also created some protections. Some of which we know about, however I believe he also made some things that we don't know about.

I mean think about it the World is how old? Yet it hasn't ever had a metour that destroyed it. Nor any other planet in our solar system.

Good question!!

Jupiter is acting as a shield it is 2 and 1/2 times the size of earth and has an incredible gravitational force that either draws, repels or deflects comets away from our solar system. Yes, it is in a perfect location and is a perfect size to protect us and did not happen by chance. Jupiter's location and size is just one of the (currently known) 41 characteristics that are perfectly in sync for life on Earth.

if God, in the Old Testament could move time forward and then backward(by moving the sun) a quarter af an hour, then i truly believe that the same God can protect the Earth from stray meteorites and the such. The Earth is not going to end until God is ready for it to. and hopefully then we wil all be ready to go to Heaven. Don't fret about the uncontrolable, you can only control where your soul ends up.

You don't have to get biblical to fiqure this one out. It's a scientific and understanable fact that the main reason the earth doesn't get hit that often by larger meteorites is thanks mainly to the moon. Get a telescope and take a long look at the moons surface and you'll notice a multitude of crators.

And your research about earth Never getting hit is way off. A large meteor crash is now the predominently excepted reason that caused the great dinosaur extintion.

Don't get me wrong I believe in God the Creator, but not in this case. Sorry

You should play the lottery with those odds.

92,955,820 miles to the sun, eath is 7826 at its greatest diameter.

11727 "earths" could fit between the earth and sun. thats a lot of empty.

Earth's rotational speed around the Sun = 67,000 mph
Earth is hit by 6 tons of meteorites a day, every day
The Sun's rotational speed around the Galaxy = 135 mps. And it takes the sun 226 million Earth years to complete one orbit around the Galaxy. we aren't the only moving target
"A really, really big star"
Betelgeuse, the shoulder of Orion, is 425 light years away and 60,000 times brighter than our star the Sun. It is so big that if you replaced the Sun with Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse would fill our solar system out past the orbit of Jupiter. We aren't "huge" like you would like to think so go ahead and start throwing those darts.

Space is vast. Earth is also protected to some extent by its moon and by the outer gas giant planets such as Jupiter whose gravitational influence intercepts many large bodies in space.

But really space is just so vast that the chances of any given object striking Earth are marginal at best.

If we constantly worried about what might happen, with all of the things that could happen, we would all live in fear, have ulcers and diarrhea, and get nothing done except talk to one another of our impending doom. Life is the #1 cause of death. I personally have accepted this and have decided to enjoy the days I do have and ignore the inevitable.

Fallen Jedi has the right answer, if god was real why would he protect us from a meteorite but not from earthquakes or hurricanes?

It's the same odds of hitting the driver of a speeding car with a dart from the side of the road.
