make a start up disk from the Win 98. check whether fdisk.exe file is present in the floppy disk. keep the disk in the floppy drive. and restart the system. System will boot from the disk. type the "fdisk ".
Or take any Windows OS CD. boot for the Cd (change the boot setting to Cd in the BIOS). and select the drive which you want to format. installation ask "do you want to format this drive" say yes. now escape the installation. done drive is formated.

If its not in use, you can do it in Windows by going into My Computer, and right clicking on the drive you want to format, and selecting Format.
Other than that, you may want to use a boot disk, or go into DOS and use the Format command. You can also probably use the Windows XP console to format. Good Luck!

If u want to format a single partition then goto "My computer" right click the drive letter to format and click Format.
If u want to format complete HDD then u can use one of the following methods
1. Boot from a Win98 boot disk (Floppy or CD) then at a command prompt type FDISK. then select option 3, then delete the partitions, restart the PC again boot from a boot disk, run fdisk again and select option 1 to create new partitions, again restart and boot from a boot disk and use the format command.
2. Use DM for all HDD brands or diskwizard only for seagate HDD . download it from www.seagate.com.
