There is a cat that adopted me and she just delivered 8 kittens with only one survivor, is there such thing as a double pregnancy in cats? She was pregnant about 4 weeks and the male cats came around her again like she was in heat twice. Please let me know what you think? Thanx.

Wow, I'm not an expert on cat to say yes or no about double pregnacy. But I can say that I've experience about 10 litters of kittens over the past few years (finally got them spayed, best move I ever made).
But thats quite a large litter. I would consider a normal litter from all my cats to be 4 kittens. I have seen up to 5-6 a couple of times. It did seem like the largest litters had the largest fatality rates too.
Just keep an eye on the little kitten for pus in their eyes. Its conjuctivitis and common in kittens. Almost one kitten in every litter I had, had the problem. The problem will eventually get so bad that you have to pry their eyes open to break the dried pus around their eyes. The treatment is a simple antibiotic avail from a vet for about 10.00. Its pretty much like Neosporin and you put a small strip in their eyes a couple times a day.

Gestation in felines is approx 60-63 days about 8 wks. She can become pregnant by more than one male during her heat cycle. That means of those 8 kittens - there could be a few different fathers. Sometimes the queen will come back into heat soon after giving birth and that may be what you are observing. I suspect due to the high number of kittens they had low birth weights and that could have contributed to the low survival rate. My recommendation is to visit your veterinarian for exam and leukemia test, get her vaccinated and spayed.

I'd be very concerned about your cat's health. Why did 7 of her 8 kittens die?
Have you taken her to a vet?
Normally, she wouldn't be pregnant, but you never know. I'd get her fixed anyhow. There's too many strays being thrown away now that it'd be a shame to create such an excess population to starve or die of disease.
Good for you for realizing your place in a cat's world, though.
I myself am owned by 2 cats at present.

She could desire to be fed canned and dry chow it is made for kittens. This has a a techniques better protein and fat content, which she would be able to wish for a healthy being pregnant and healthy kittens. If she does not receive adequate foodstuff, her physique will rob itself to furnish what the fetuses want, and he or she would be able to be in undesirable challenge whilst giving delivery. proceed feeding her this nutrition till the kittens are weaned. It takes nutrition to make nutrition, and whilst she is nursing she would be able to wish the extra beneficial energy to offer milk. I supply pregnant cats all they want to consume. They get canned nutrition thrice an afternoon, and there is dry chow out all the time. With the present disaster over tainted nutrition, you would be able to sense extra soft with a vet formulation, in spite of the shown fact that to my know-how, there have been no comments interior the breeding community over Purina professional Plan Kitten, Iams Kitten or the Royal Canin Kitten formulation.

Go get her fixed. Please. If you can not afford to check with some local vets and find out when the S.P.C.A is holding free procedures.
