I don't know the exact number of hours, but is often the majority of the day. Cats are nocturnal animals... they love to play, hunt & do most of their activities at night.

It depends on the age of the cat. A kitten will spend more time playing. An older cat may sleep as much as 18 hours a day! It also depends on how hard he's played.

If this is a sudden change in your cat's behavior then you may need to consult a vet.

Basically as much as they want. Cats naturally sleep a lot. Play with them while they are awake so they get plenty of excercize.

If you were to ask a cat this question the answer would be, "24 hours is still not enough."

Cats don't sleep, they only nap. Their total average nap time is about 16 to 18 for an adult cat. For kittens, it is about 14 to 16 hours per day, since they are more playful and active.

I think I read somewhere that they sleep 14-18 hrs a day. But to be honest, I think that the minute I go to work, mine is up and awake. Getting on the cabinets, stove, kitchen table. Running through the house, eating the plants, you name it. Then the minute he hears my car in the driveway (he's a dog in that aspect) he quickly lays down looking drowsy and waits for me to call out to him, to let him know that I am home. All the while he is thinking about things like "I just drank out of the toilet" while licking my face. Or lays across the kitchen floor saying "rub my belly" because he probably just found something on the floor, ate it, and now has a stomach ache.

the Big Cats, like lions, sleep up to 20 hours a day, but they aren't in a deep sleep.
