Yes, but hospice is available as is pain therapy. The pain will be so unbearable that the relative will most likely choose pain killers. Usually a port is implanted in the chest just under the skin and the medication is given via IV.

I'm not an expert, but I've seen a little grl pass fm this and fm what other people say it is very painful either way, however the dr's will keep her druged up w/pn med, so she will feel comfortable as possible. I don't know if u know, but recently on the news they were talking about new medication 2 either prevent cancer or they have new medication 2 help live longer. I know how ur family member feels I have an illness as well and she's probably scarred of the disease and even possible in denial @ the moment and that's ok. I'm not sure how far along she is but please give her some x 2 get over the schock and if she has any kids she will do a turn around it's just gonna take x cuz I just found out about mind and I don't want 2 fight it either, but I have 2 teenagers 2 think about and i'm scared of what I have as well. I would try and do some research on this medication that I just herd of on the news and hopefully it will give her some hope 2 keep going. If u haven't herd of it or the dr's I would be happy 2 research it on the news web page and if I locate it I will be happy 2 forward it 2 u if u like. u can also e-mail me if I can be of some help, even if u need a shoulder 2 lean on or just some1 2 talk 2 even though u don't know me

it matters on what kind of cancer and the way they handle pain. but chemo and radiation causes a lot of more pain and problems. my brother is a cancer survivor and my dad is dying of cancer. i do not have cancer but i know things about it. chemo and radiation can causes lots of vomiting and burning. ive heard someone going through chemo feels like they r burning in the inside like they r on fire. some ppl dont go thru any treatment and survive. it matters on there will to live. there are diets to help reduce cancer. they are called macrobiotic diets. well im sorry to hear a family member has cancer it is hard to go through. i am.

Chemo really has nothing to do with the pain of dying of cancer. Some people use chemo as a way to extend the number of days they have if they have been diagnosed as terminal, but it actually makes most people sick for several days after the treatment.

depends on the cancer. but palliative care (meant to alleviate pain and enhance comfort) is something completely different from the chemo/radiation nightmare that is oncological treatment nowadays. i really can understand your loved one's desire to avoid all that. If he or she were to receive no medical care at all, then the chances are very good that they would die relatively quickly, in intense and unnecessary pain. However, if the person is sure about refusing treatment, they can be admitted to hospice care (either at home or to a hospice facility), which has palliative care at it's very roots, to die gently and in a minimum of pain, when they're ready.

Pain from cancer is quite common, however, it depends on the type of cancer and the organ or organ system affected.
If the cancer is in bones or has spread to bones the pain will be excruciating and will require some drugs to be administered.
The response to this question will be complete if we can know the type of cancer and the organ affected. Sometimes radiation therapy can help

people with cancer die in pain with or without chemo.. lots of times the chemo makes them worse, with things like nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, not eating, dry mouth, low blood counts.. ect ect.. Pain meds is a priorty with any cancer pt and should not be worried about addiction or any of that crap.. Good luck.. I wish your family the best.. God bless

My father died from cancer and I can tell you that being on Chemo will hurt them but help them live and when my dad went off his Chemo before he died he was hurting but they gave him morphine for it and he was not in any pain. You will want them to have medicine for the pain, it's going to hurt you and your family member to be in all the pain.

Chemo doesn't really affect the pain but does cause nausea. Look into Hospice for their care. They are wonderful with pain control.
