what if the products to prevent fly-aways leave hair gunky and hard, should we forego the products to make our hair more pleasant to touch even though there will be fly-aways??

Me myself I kind of prefer straight and then wavy. Curly is not one of my preferences. I also prefer the natural look without hairspray etc etc. Length doesn't matter, but some girls look better wearing their hair up depending on their facial features.
I'm the type of person that prefers girl who wear little to none make up. The girl next door look. Just so you know where i'm coming from.

Well, I can't give you advice on what to use, but I like straight hair. From what I hear, I'm the only one I know though.
Gunky hair is kinda gross though, so I'd just stay away from those products anyway.

theres no answer to that girly. All guys like all kinds of women. OSme like long, some like short. All I can recomend is dont use lots of hairspray, The more natural the better. If you got real curly hair amke sure you use enogh products to keep it tame but not stiff.
