Weird? I would say different, which is a very good thing. I love Yellow the orange cat. I had a cat that I couldn't name for a few days-just couldn't get it. For a time I was calling him, affectionately, Little S*, but then it seemed like he was answering! Can't have that. So we worked hard together and came up with Morgan, which suited him well for 10+ years.
Yellow is perfect.

If you are ok with your cat's name, then who cares what everyone else thinks? I used to have a dog named Athena and a cat named Ramsey and all my friends thought I was crazy. At the time I was into ancient history so that's why! But IMHO, Yellow is a cool name but "Rusty" is even better.

Sounds fine to me. When I was little I had a stuffed panda bear named Kuala, cause I didn't know the difference. You were a kid, what's the harm? It's not like a cat usually answers when you call it's name, anyhow, right?

Sounds just fine to me. I had a male cockatiel named Amber (you can't tell boys from girls until about 6 months old) and a female cockatiel named Barry Sanders. oh, and a grey cat named Rosie

does it really matter? my pets have always had "pet names"so to speak, my cat bailey aka (bailey-boo, snake, bum) if he has always like it and answered to it then it really doesn't matter. my mum got frustrated with me for naming my dog (white west highland terrier) jenny. I was 10 and just thought it was a name that I liked. So go with Yellow, especially after this long! quite original I must say

Cats tend to pick their own names, and they will tell you what those names are, if you listen.Small kids tend to listen more. So, the cat told you his name, go with it.
