and I dont mean how to do it.. i mean as a Canadian dating an American, you may know it is very difficult to get citizenship etc in each others countries.. so I am wondering if anyone has any advice or has experienced a similiar situation.. it would be really nice to be able to be together?

The issue is.. he is a Green Card Holder.. an Australian citizen.. and from what I have read.. even marrying him would not allow me into the US for up to possibly 5 years. That being the only option I am aware of you can see the frustration with that situation. We both have ties to our countries, but living in the US is currently the only option for the both of us.

If he's a green card holder, he cannot leave the US for more than 6 months, or a one time shot of 2 years with special permission. I can't think of any way to solve the problem, short of you two marrying or you getting a job in the US. He could apply for citizenship in the US (or get dual citizenship) and then sponsor you. That would take a lot less time than 5 years.

i don't think it's much of a problem at all in either country as long as you are married. Going back and forth to visit shouldn't be difficult either.
