My dobie is male and 7 months old, is it OK to buy a female now or is it better to finish training before I get a second ?

I have always gotten my second Doberman when I knew I had the first one trained to my satisfaction. Reason being -- they learn from each other as much, if not more. That also means they learn good behaviors and bad. Just think how much fun you'd have with TWO Dobermans who don't come when called.

Get your first one trained, then get the second one for company. Until then, you want all the attention your dog has on YOU -- the person giving the commands.

2 youngsters can be very hard! I have been showing dogs for 30 years, and teaching obedience for 25, and I kept 2 puppies from my last litter. 2 is so much harder than 1, and I don't plan on ever doing that again.

2 youngsters will also tend to bond more with each other than with you.

I would wait awhile. You could start LOOKING now, if you are getting one from a good breeder, you may very well be on a waiting list for awhile anyhow.
