This is an example of the "bullet proof vest" mentality that some religious adherents and many critics of religious belief systems have that baffles me.

There is no heavenly bullet proof vest. Being a member of a religion doesn't place you outside of life and the day-to-day occurences of living... and dying. If you are a Christian (Jew, Muslim, etc) because you believe that God is going to protect you from disease, fire, flood and famine you're sadly mistaken. Life happens.

The answer rings like an old cliche but it's true.... God doesn't get you out of the rough spots, he gets you through them. Faith is about trusting in a greater Love that will be with us through all the stuff life has to throw at us.

I would hardly think God would expect us to wander through life not taking care of ourselves either. We wear shoes/sandals/boots to protect our feet. Many wear head coverings in heat and cold. If a shot rings out we instinctively duck. We work to feed our famlies and ourselves. We hold our child's hand to keep them safe on a busy corner. These actions are done not as a lack of faith in God but in the knowledge that part of our "calling" in this life is to treat others and ourselves well.

Asking why the Roman Catholic Church doesn't take precautions to protect its spiritual leader from some lunatic with a gun is the same as asking why the rest of us go to doctors, take medicines, look both ways before crossing the street, lock our doors at night, use sun screen in the summer and wear warm clothing when it snows.

What you're asking is foolish and flies in the face of the love and care that God expects us to show for others and ourselves in living our lives well.

I see nothing wrong with the Pope riding in his popemobile than I do in getting a flu shot each year. If anything I salute the Pope for not locking himself up in the Vatican but having the courage to go out in public and still be visible as a symbol of his faith.

This is a very funny question. But to answer it for anyone who takes it seriously... God watches over His people but he does not protect them from harm or even death (Job 14:13). This scripture does show that he remembers His servants and will raise them up to live on Earth at a later date (Rev 21:3,4). However, whether the pope is truly a man of God is a different story all together. Personally, I feel he needs that glass. ;)

The Pope is an imposter and he is actually protecting himself from a wrathful God.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness though, do you see all of the sh*t that crazy wears. There is a verse in scripture where it talks about the pharisees broadening the phylacteries of their garments. They loved to go around in big ostentatious gettups that showed what great super religious leaders they were.

How can you take anybody seriously who wears all of that sh*t as a spiritual man.

Hell, even Buddhist monks have a better concept of spirituality than the godd*mned Pope.

Plus, can you believe the Vatican came out against Israel, in this recent military situation.

So what, fat dressed up dude is for terrorists now.

Everyone has free will. God gave it to us. Even the man who shot the pope has free will, and he used it to commit an evil act. God will never interfere with your free will. To do so would mean that you are not free, but rather under the thumb of a supernatual dictator, which God is not. Look, however, at the greater good that was accomplished because of this. The pope went to the prison of the man who had shot him, and prayed with him and forgiven him. How many of us would do that?

God used an evil act to accomplish an even greater good.

Because believing in a higher power doesn't mean being an idiot. Ya don't close your eyes before you cross the street and say "Oh well, if god cares I'll make it accross." If your going to try and be an anti religion rebel at least put a little thought into your questions.

Same reason why I wear a seatbelt. Also, I don't believe the Pope is currently in God's flock...he doesn't even except the salvation that comes by faith in Jesus.

God does not always protect; he sometimes destory. No one knows whom He protects and destroys. The pope does not know God's intent; the pope could not rely on the unsure source of protection.

not only does this show that god isn't real, but it also shows that the pope doesn't really believe that god is there to protect him. if the pope really did believe, then he would go out protected only by god. and he would get shot.

--------

KylieElenstar,

god can't protect someone from a shot gun blast?? if god were actually real, then i think he would be insulted to have you as a follower.

Is this rhetorical, it is because even if god is watching he isn't inclined to do much helping, he keeps his eye on the sparrow too but the cat still gets fed

Because we are not sheep.
I don't care if it's just an analogy. ^_^
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that god can't protect someone from a shotgun blast, no matter how holy they are.
