Don't over react to it...it only calls more attention to it.

I have always hated my first name. When I went to work for the first time I mentioned this to a lady I worked with and she told me that "your name is the first gift your mother and father gave you - you should be proud of it"
Im 42 now and used to it ......and now the name has come back in popularity and lots of people calling their children it now - but i still dont like it!

I have a friend who I have known since 1st grade. Everyone then called her "Sissy". I grew up calling her that. One summer, she decided she wanted to be known by her middle name, Rene'. Her first name was Kimberly, btw. Anyway, when school started, we all called her "Sis" as usual. She immediately corrected us and said, "I don't like that name and from now on, I will only answer to 'Rene' ." . And she followed through with it. So now, 20+ years later, she is Rene'. :) Hope that helps!

You very politely state, "I prefer to be called ___." Give them a few reminders and then, don't answer at all until they address you the way you wish to be addressed. However, let your grandma continue.

You can tell her very nicely that you don't like being called that name and although it may not work because she is your grandmother as least you have tried.
Grandma, I love you very much but, that you name you call me all of the time, please don't do that anymore.

make another nickname for yourself.
Once people know you for another name, then they will forget the other one.

Honey, if you don't let it bother you then others won't comment and therefor you won't be embarrassed.
