Yeah, and then maybe I'd find opera marginally interested.

Just to clarify, castrotti were able to get an erection, they just were not able to have children.

As for having some today, well, you have to get 'em castrated before puberty. I doubt very highly that the Child Protection Agencies would like that too much.

Besides, there are no recording of castrotti so no one really knows what they sounded like. Musical tastes change dramatically based upon society. Many of the great tenors or sopranos from yesteryear would not make it in today's opera world and therefore castrating children would be a huge risk. Nothing would be more crappy than to be castrated for nothing!

What makes you think we DON'T have castrato in opera? Have you taken a good look at some of those sopranos??

Only if they are completely aware of what castration will mean for the rest of their lives. But if they do understand that and have no reason to think they might change their minds, then sure, let them be castrated. It would make them more unique, possibly stronger people, plus they wouldn't go bald.

Absolutely not! These individuals had to be castrated before they entered puberty. A child of that age isn't old enough to make such a decision. It was a form of child abuse and would certainly be considered such today.

If they were the rock stars, what kind of groupies did they have?

Novel idea. Their voices were very powerful. Singing is my passion, but if I were a guy, no. Ain't worth it!
