a pet that you loved very much? I would like to thank everyone for their thoughful answers on my dog's (Lucky) condition. He was on medication for heartworms and was supposed to start treatment in another week. Well, I lost him today. I am very sad, he was dearly loved. How do I deal with the loss? I have had him over 9 years. I do have other pets and they are loved just as much. It is so hard. I am not a kid, I am 24 years old and we have lost pets before, my mom has, but this is the first pet, that I have personally lost, that was mine. Please, NO RUDE COMMENTS, this is hard enough without the rude answers or comments.

I know how you feel, I lost my dog that I had since I was 5, she died when I was 19(I'm 25) and I have a tattoo on my ankle for her memory, she died Easter weekend. We had to put down my black lab mix in April 2004, we think he had cancer, he was 14 and we had his mother too we put her down in July 2004, she had cancer and was 17, so that was very hard to do, but we had then cremated and they are on the mantel I have pics on my lab on my desk at work and my mom wants her ashes to be spread with my dogs when she goes. But we talk about them often. And I have had dreams with them in it and I know that when I wake up that they are still with me( your making me cry) when they come to your dreams they are visiting you. I have a 2 year old Chihuahua and he is my baby boy, my dad brought him home just a month before we put my sweet old puppies down.

I have lost 3 dogs in my time, both of which I had for over 10 years before they left me. I have found that I had to either get another pet soon, or, like now, I had other pets I could love and mourn with. Time is the only thing that will make that open wound any better, but it will never go away. I still haven't got over any of them, but the pain is a lot less with the other dogs for me to focus my love on. You have my most heart felt condolences on your loss and I hope you know your baby is in a wonderful place with my boys and is running free, happy and pain free now. Good luck, my dear. DOGS RULE ALWAYS!!!

I'm really sorry for your loss and I have yet to experience this pain. The only advice I can offer, is grieve. I think you need to let it out and cry. Sometimes I think of losing either of my two FurBabies and I break into tears and I don't know how I would cope with this loss. Celebrate his life and all he's done. I'm sure that he would lick your face and cuddle with you to make sure you were not sad. He's in Rainbow Bridge now...chasing all the squirrels and totally worm-free. Try posting his life in this site , there is a section for those that have lost a dear pet, actually a member of the family. Perhaps they can offer some more comforting words. Best of luck.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my cat that I had for 17 years and I just about lost my mind. I didn't think I would ever be able to accept that my baby girl was gone but my mom but me another cat and I'm completely inlove with this little guy. Nothing or no one will ever replace my baby girl and I still have pictures of her all over my house because I still miss her but being able to take in another cat that was without a home was helpful and fun. Just take it one day at a time and your heart will heal. I have that Rainbow Bridge Poem on my fridge with her pictures around it. Good luck & be blessed.

Yes its sad to loose a beloved pet. I am sorry for you. I have lost bird pets. Well, try to look for it posting signs up all over the place where you lost him and maybe even in the news paper; Maybe even offer a reward and explain he was under treatment. If nothing works then you must accept the lost, what else can be done?

I know some people think us a little crazy for grieving the loss of a pet but I say it is okay.I had a dog her name was Queeny she lived with me for 14 years. She was my best friend and when she passed away I cried my heart out.I buried her under the pine tree in my back yard.I know the loss of a pet and it feels to me just like losing a family member.I am so very sorry that your dog Lucky didn't make it but I know you will remember him like I do Queeny.Just give yourself time to heal and I'll be praying for you.

I ONLY WANTED YOU
They say memories are golden
well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you
you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

With love, I have shed so many tears this morning, my heart is breaking for you. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. There is nothing quite as terrible as losing a pet.

Unable to accept it's awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan...."

I am sooooooooo sad for you. I know exactly how you're feeling, because I had to put my dog to sleep on Tuesday. I was completely overwhelmed when it had to be done. She had bladder cancer and was no longer able to urinate. The only thing that is getting me through right now is believing she is in a better place, running around, and totally pain free. I loved her so much. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life. My sincere sympathy to you.....I understand 100% where you're coming from! I hope that someday I can get over this. It's just right now, it seems impossible. She is always on my mind!! She was my baby!!

Yes just recently a few weeks we found out my cat had cancer... he was very old so we knew if we tried to give him the treatments the chances of him surviving it were very low. So we decided to put him to sleep and it all happened so fast. I came home from a friend's house and my mom was put my cat into a basket and I asked her why and she started crying and I did too and she told me to say goodbye.... forever. I couldn't go to the vet with my mom because I was crying so much.
About a week ago my rabbit died... another animal found her in the back yard.
I know these things are VERY difficult we all just have to move on and pray
God bless

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'll be praying that you find him!
edit: I'm so sorry! I misread your question! Well then, I will be praying for you and that you cope well. I lost my dog of nine years back in 2003 (Flea). I loved him so much. But now I have my new dog, who isn't the same as Flea, but he makes a good friend too. During Hurricane Rita, we took our cat with us to evacuate. And when we were in the middle of traffic he ran off and we never found him.
Don't worry, the loss gets better with time! Just look at pictures of Lucky, and remember how much he loved you! That helped me.
