The sad truth is that some Christians feel it is their duty to attack other religions. And Christianity is not the only religion to do so, Islam is even worse, to the point of killing other Islamic believers who disagree over small points (remember Zkwaqi in Iraq).
I think that all of these people forget one key fact about religious convictions: we all are entitled to believe whatever we want to believe. I am a Christian; I do not hesitate to deny that fact. But I will not attack someone else's faith. If anyone wants to know what I believe, they will ask. But it is not my right, nor anyone else's right to attack other religions!

They probably don't want to understand it and they bash it to show their disapproval of the religion and to show they have no intention of even listening to what the other person believes. Its the same reason anyone bashes a religion. People often have a tendency to bash what they don't understand. Even if they do understand the other religion that doesn't mean that the bashing will stop. Some won't bash unless provoked to do so. If you want someone's opinion on a different religion you should be prepared for all kinds of answers. People tend to say things that may be insulting to others who may believe in what the person does not. Many people are not open minded. The lack of this causes this also.

Now when you say 'some christians', do you mean ones that you've had a bad experience with? If your religion is different from a Christians religion (i.e. Baptist, Southern Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, etc.) why don't you enlighten them about yours? If you are a Christian and you know other Christians who do this 'bashing of other religions' simply tell them they need to buff up their info on other religions before they just come out and make an accusation. I know a little about the Mormon religion, a little about the Jehovah's Witnesses and Catholic religion, but I don't go bashing their religions. I may not have chosen that religion for myself, but I'm not gonna go bash it. I'm a Christian and bottom line is that no one is perfect. Yes there are some Christians out there that are just way too over the top and that could be why some people don't want to go to Church or become a Christian. Like I said, if you know a Christian or Christians who have done this, just tell them to go educate themselves before they make an a.s.s. out of themselves.

It isn't like Christians are the only ones that bash religions. I have heard every religion go on about the faults of other religions and not even listen to the other points of view. Christians are not alone here, there are just more of them. Unfortunately freedom of religion seems to mean to a significant amount of people that they are to try to convert as many people to their point of view as possible no matter what the people they are trying to convert say. I don't care for it, but as long as they are not harassing me, I leave them be. It is what they believe and these people will not listen to any other suggestions or ideals. Narrow mindedness knows no bounds. Good question!!

Its not a christian thing its a human being thing, just like being sexists and racist. People like to believe that what they have is the best. Everyone wants to finish 1st in the race. It is the same for your question. Why do Christians feel the need to bash a religion they dont know. Because people want what they have to be the best.

I hope this doesn't offend you, but all religions bash other religions only because they don't worship like they do. Every one has there own interpretation of worship and what God expects from us, and people in general bash each other, I am a Christians and I really wish and pray that we all can just get along, and worship only One God, and stop getting caught up on petey stuff

Christians aren't perfect.. (obviously).. and since they aren't perfect, it is very possible a Christian may bash a religion they don't know everything about. However, I think it's okay for a Christian to assert as to why they believe in something that is true, and denounce other religions for various specific reasons. What's the point of being a Christian if you don't think it's the truth and other "religions" are false?

One doesn't need a full understanding of the harmful effects of mercury poisoning to tell someone they shouldn't continue to drink from a well that has mercury in it.
In the same way, I don't need to understand every detail of a different religion to be caring enough to let people know what Jesus said.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

I'm not a Christian, but I feel it's ok to bash some religions without knowing everything about them. Just like I don't know everything about forced sex slavery, but I think it's wrong. I don't know everything about Islam, but what I do know sounds downright evil. And what I know about Wicca sounds out and out flaky. Really, I can't think of a religion that I couldn't bash for one reason or another.

I'm Catholic and I never liked the idea of bashing other religions. There should always be respect for others be it religion, culture, traditions, etc. I think some Christians do it because they get too caught up in their need to convert/preach to people that they forget to love their neighbours and to respect them.
