The truth is very simple, and it hurts... to those who disagree with it. Preachers have to cram that sort of stuff down the throats of others, because there is no other way to make them believe. Why? Because there is no proof other than the bible, or rather certain peoples interpretations of it. However, I will also admit, that many scientists will refuse to believe a theory that doesn't jive with the popular opinion, no matter how much sense it makes. This is what I call the dogma of science. It's far less severe than that of religion, but it does exist.

Most average preacher won't make extravagant promises about mental and physical healing (although some televangalists do). Believing in the theory of 'god' will not save you (in christianity anyway). Just thought i would clear that up.
The scientific community hasn't exactly behaved in a decent manner over the past 100 years. They continually change what they consider 'facts'. Develop new theories, get rid of old ones, and modify already existing ones. If christians behaved like this it would hardly be an unchanging religion from the unchanging God.
People go to churches to learn about God. Just as we go to universities to learn about science. The previous semester i had chemical kinetics rammed down my throat as well as evolutionary theory. Christianity is open for debate. Some debate Jesus never existed, some debate he was married and kids, and some debate he was a good man. Over 1000 years of open debate and speculation has not debunked christianity. This would make it a very robust theory indeed.
the reason why christians share what they believe (sometimes in a questionable manner) is because they are commanded by their Jesus to do so. Think of it this way. From the implications that their theory has, they are compelled to share it in whatever way possible.

I am a Christian and never have had anything pushed onto me, nor do I try to force my beliefs upon anyone else.
Maybe if you feel like it is being "pumped down your throat" and it really bothers you enough to write this question, it could actually be because of a deep psychological need for spirituality. If others are constantly preaching at you, maybe they see a need for something positive in your life that God can offer.
Obviously, no one can be forced into believing anything at all, so I do think that is the wrong approach. It is up to each individual to make up their own minds about what they believe.
But personally, I think that it is better to have faith and believe in something positive that could enrich your life and the lives of those around you, with the possibility of being wrong, than to live your life with no hope at all... and then it turns out YOU were wrong...

You answered your own question without knowing it. In your first sentence you indicated that the science community modifies their theories. This is because they're not dealing in truth. They're dealing in theory.
Christians, on the other hand, deal in truth, not theory. Christians don't know which people are Christ's sheep, and which are not, so they "stand on street corners and hand out leaflets". This is because Christ said "My sheep hear my voice and they will follow me."
If you were Christ's sheep, you would have been attracted to the message and sought the path leading towards that light of truth. Rather, you have made the decision to reject the truth, being more attracted to the theories of the "science community".
So tell me this; Since you've made your decision, why do you spend any time in the "religion and spirituality" section of this site?
I already know the answer. This is your way of "standing on street corners, yelling at passers-by and handing out leaflets." You yourself are preaching your religion of atheism, which requires more faith than Christianity because the theory-tales you believe are even more far-fetched. Rocks "sprang to life" eh, yeah, right! Don't hold your breath.

some do behave in a decent manner.. it's the crazy ones who get all the attention about denouncing such things. or standing on street corners. i think it's just a matter of the person. some people believe in trying to convert all people to their way of thinking. others are more humble, thank goodness. :)
since neither religion or science is going away, both have to coexist some how.
but i know what you mean.
sometimes it's very overwhelming and frustrating.

You are incorrect to seperate the religious from the scientific community. There are many religious scientists. You seem to be referring only to the scientists who happen to be atheist. Science in no way contradicts anything in the Bible. Science is a wonderful tool to help us understand God's creation. In fact, since most atheists rely so heavily on science, we fully expect scientific evidence to finally convince you that God does exist.
If you knew the cure for cancer, wouldn't you tell everyone you know? If someone didn't believe you, would that stop you? Do you have the good of mankind at heart, or are you so selfish that you would let them die in their ignorance?
If someone you loved was standing in the road and there was a truck bearing down on them at high speed, would you warn them or let them die in their ignorance? What if they said they didn't believe in trucks, even though the truth was so obvious to you? Would you live and let die?
What is the condition of your heart that this is a bad thing to try to save people's souls?

Why do university professors cram the ONE theory down the students throat. And when the student questions the holy theory... he gets laughed at or made fun of... hmmmm
Didn't think of it that way did ya!?!?!
The scientific community behaves in a decent manner?!?!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! That was hilarious. You obviously have no CLUE about the scientific community. Shall I start naming the frauds out there that have been exposed?? Shall I start speaking of the artistic license out there. It was a sweet thing to have children taught all about Nebraska man. SCIENTIFIC PAPERS were written on him...museums displayed him and his wife... and it was found to be an extinct pigs tooth... HAHAHAHAHAH!

When you mention simplistic minds, you describe your own, but you can't speak for others because we aren't all like you (Thank God, who exists). As for the preachers, it is every Christian's duty to spread the Gospel. And by the way, if you had experienced any of those things you're complaining about, you'd know that the message of the preachers isn't only that God exists, but that He has a plan for our lives. I think you are just another overweight lesbian hypocrite who flatters herself that she is bright. You are afraid of God because you know He doesn't approve of what you're doing with the life He gave you.

They believe if people don't accept Jesus Christ as their savior to cover their sins and change their life then the person will be lost and when they die, will go to hell.. which is a horrible place. If you were convinced the people you loved and cared about were missing out on the meaning of life and were doomed to go to a horrible place for eternity, it would be hard to keep that to yourself. Your entire question comes from a position of arrogance and misinformation towards religion in general.

Well, it seems that we have a contradiction on here. Evolutionists want to tell everyone that God is dead. Theists want to tell you that he is alive. Either way on THIS website, by virtue of posting on here, you ae inviting everyone, Theist and Scientist alike to share their opinion. Being a scientist, I would think that one would be open to all possibilities, but, then again, some scientists are very close minded. GOD BLESS YOU!
