hubby lost his job and we did not have enough money to both pay bills and feed a family of four for the month and we were struggling as to what to do - doorbell rang and there stood some of our neighbors with boxes and boxes of collected food from all the people on our street! seems our 5 year old heard us talking about our dilemma and went out to play - then told his friend's mom about our problems. An impromptu food collection was begun on the spot and within 1/2 hour there was the answer and we could pay the bills. It was the most generous thing I myself had experienced, as some of the people did not know us, and most of them were about as much down on their luck too. (that was 28 years ago, and the memory and feelings are still as strong). Hubby got a job shortly after and we made it through.

Nicest thing someone's done for me? There are a lot. I know some really great people. This year it would be the guy who unexpectedly made me a wonderful candle light dinner when I was having a very bad day, and made me an awesome breakfast in the morning too. ;)
Nicest thing I've done for someone recently was open my home to a foreign couple (students) I'd never met and who'd never been to the US stay when they first moved here. I helped them find a really great affordable apartment also. It was really nice to be able to make someone's transition less scary and I made some great friends in the process.

The nicest thing I've ever done (so far) is spend all my birthday money on buying my family and friends gifts. My birthday was in Oct. so I saved all my money until it was time to start Christmas shopping.
The nicest thing someone has every done for me is let me live. My mom had me at an old age (38) and usely at that age you hear if you have a child it will be disformed or retarded. But, my parents took that chance and end up having a smart healthy child.

The nicest thing someone has ever done for me happened two weeks ago. I asked my daughter to pick up some licorice for me. I like the kind that is cut up. Well, she couldn't find that, so she bought the regular stuff and then while I was napping she cut up a 2lb bag of licorice just because she knew I liked it that way! What a kid. I could have cried at the kindness she showed me.

the nicest thing that anyone has done for me is just letting me know that they care for me and that they will always be here.

I asked for volunteers in my college classes to go to a nursing home and sing Christmas carols for the people there.
I donated half of the food I had to a family who needed it and went out and bought their children Christmas presents.

one of them...: a friend went up to the woods at Christmas & got us a 12-foot tree, the most awesome Christmas tree ever !
On Christmas Eve, I saw a homeless woman & little girl standing on the corner with a sign, I drove around the block & gave them $5 & a stuffed animal....as I was leaving, someone came & picked them up...

A busload of fellow peers of a college seminar that I attended sang me 'Happy Birthday' on my 18th birthday. Most of whom did willingly even though they did not know me personally. I was so touched that I remained speechless.
It turned out that some of them and I even became fast friends. It was great.

I always have and still enjoy buying my wife gifts. I recently bought her a westminster chime clock and a stand mixer she has been wanting for a couple of years and surprised her with the gifts.
