There are a lot more than the two, so I will explain the two that you asked about. Atten-hut is a command to stand tall and prepare for the next command. Parade rest is a command to come down from attention, to a more comfortable stance, but to remain mute, and motionless.

there both certain stands of positions, like parade rest means to rest your hands in the swell of your back and spread your legs to shoulder length apart. atten hut means to put your heals together with your toes pointing the the opposite direction of each other, gut in, chest out and your hand almost in a first but with your thumb on the outside and placing it along the middle of your thigh muscle. your elbows slightly bent. a lot easier shown than explained. actually can't remember if parade rest is what I said or if what I explained about parad rest is actually called at-ease. one of them mean what I already explained and the other just means to do what you basically want without moving you left foot out of place.

It's a verbal command and it's done over and over to instill discipline
