It definitely makes you gain weight -- I gained about 40 pounds in like 2 or 3 months (from 125 to 165). I still trying to lose it all.

It makes you really tired, and want to sleep all the time.

I doesn't make you edge or nervous, generally -- instead it makes you tired and lethargic.

And no, it doesn't kill you. If you take an overdose it may, but you've got to take a whole lot of pills -- way more than your doctor would ever prescribe.

But the weight thing is definitely an issue.

Zyprexa is a good medication I've been taking it 4 yrs, however u do gain weight w/the medication as far as the side effects. I've been real lucky I haven't had any other symptoms w/it at all and I personally wouldn't give up the medication if I didn't have 2. If u friend is getting very edgy it might be 1 of his other medications, I don't think it's from the zyprexa, however every 1 is different. U can also do research on all his meds online there is a website called webmd.com u can go 2 and find answers about his meds and read up on the side effects. If I can help u any further let me know. I'm not an expert, but I know alot about meds cuz I had 2 do all my research on them, because what the pychs 4 get 2 tell u is all the side effects and Dr.s they just give u the basic information not the hidden ****. Hope this helped some

My son was on Zprexa and he gained a lot of weight. Never made him edgy. He could be getting edgy if he's getting too much. Could also be that it's the condition that put him on the meds in the first place. He needs to speak with his doctor.
Cut him some slack. If you care about him go to the doctor with him. But do get him to go cause it could be a side affect from the Zyprexa.

Has he been diagnosed with schizophrenia or bipolar? If he has, then he needs to take something. He needs to see a dr. and tell him of the effects the medications are having on him. If he won't listen to you, perhaps you can talk to a family member of his and tell them of your concerns about your friend. And yes, zyprexa can cause weight gain.
Hope this helps.

Adverse events reported in the package insert for olanzapine (Zyprexa) include dry mouth, dizziness, sedation, insomnia, orthostatic hypotension, akathisia, and weight gain. But with overdose you can have problems with agitation. I suggest that you encourage your friend to see his doctor as soon as possible.
