Pets as gifts aren't ever a good idea actually but i think you should take care of the poor thing because YOU bought the kitten and doing such you're responsible for its well being whether or not your girlfriend ever warms up to it.

The way I see it you basically have two choices: either take the kitten back or keep it yourself. Maybe eventually the cutie will grow on the GF, maybe not. Some people just aren't cat (or dog or rat or pot-bellied-pig or whatever) people, and nothing you do or say will change that.

I love kittens. If I were you I'd keep the kitten, you have both bonded. That kitten needs you and is depending on you and is helpless. I wonder why she doesn't like it,could it be she was hoping for something else, like jewelry? If she really doesn't want it please keep it yourself. There are way to many homeless animals. The kitten loves you unconditionally.
