I use to babysit all of the time. I had a great time and the kids did too. I would bring some arts and crafts, books, games, toys, and even a movie. This made the time go faster for everybody. Make sure you pay attention to them because that is what you are there for. Use the phone after they go to bed. This will make the kids ask their parents when you are going to come back which means more money for you. I don't usually worry about cleaning the house, only the mess that the kids and I made. This shows the parents you were busy with the kids. Every now and then I would do the dishes- but you don't have to. As far as charging- that depends on where you live. Babysitters on Long Island NY are making $10 an hour- but I am sure that is not everywhere. Ask people you know with kids. Don't price to high or low- then you will be asked to come again. The hardest thing that I find is getting the kids to bed. Make it a game like "who can get in there pajamas the fastest or get into their room the fastest." Read a couple of books or have some quiet talk. Don't be afraid to warn them that you will tell their parents if they misbehave. Usually if you have fun with the kids they will respect what you say. The most important thing is have fun becuase then they will have fun and want you back.

Hmm, well the best thing to keep them occupied is to bring movies and things to do with them. Sometimes just you playing with them will do the trick! See what they like to do. Chances are you'll get there and the parents will already have a list of their favorite games or the kids will bring you one. Small children are amused by almost anything! ha ha.

Hi, there, let me give you a perspective from a mom's point of vew. Here is what I would want in a baby sitter and what would make me keep hiring her and even give her a bonus!
First off, I like a babysitter who will help the kids clean up, so when I get home, the toys are picked up, dishes are washed, whatever.
next, It's important that you get certified in CPR and first aid.
Another good idea is to write down some important things from the night, like what time they went to bed, etc.
Good luck!

i was the most popular babysitter in the neighborhood when I was 13 or 14. all the kids loved me because I asked them what they wanted to play. kids love to go outside and explore. take them for a walk if the street isn't too busy. get construction paper and make shapes and flowers. sing with them, act out movies they know. color pictures, always clean up their toys before Mom gets home becuase moms love to come home to a clean house and that will make you popular with the moms=more $$$$. Never get on the phone when you are babyistting, kids talk. Have fun with them.

I know it is hard... but try not to sit in front of the TV or talk on the phone. Get down on the floor and play. Kids want you to engage with them. Play with something messy like playdough because chances are that the parents hate cleaning that up and the kids don't get to do it too often.

Depends on their age. Ask the parents but communicate with the kids. Don't just watch TV or video's espeically not just before bedtime. Reading is great: espeically if you act out some of the story & make them laugh.

The first thing to remember with young children is patience. Children that young often aren't entertained with one thing for very long, so try to bring things with you to help with this, i.e. coloring books, movies. Also, you will notice that when the children get tired or hungry they tend to get cranky and aren't easy to deal with at all. So keep them fed and make sure that they get a nap. Good Luck!

Stickers will keep them in line. make sure you get cool boy ones too.. reward them for following directions, cleaning up their area after playing, and helping.
play board games with them, read to them, bubbles are always a hit. play dough outside or in a room with no carpet-let them use cookie cutters for shapes, sidewalk chalk is always great and get the kids outside--TAKE OUT THE PINK ONES-they stain clothing, let them run through water sprinkler, let them dress up and put on a show.
Good luck!
