Not enough exercise. Simple as that. 20 odd years ago when I was 5 or 6, and up until I was ten or eleven in 1990/91, we were always outside running around. Nowadays kids just sit in front of the tv or computer. It's not their fault, of course. Lazy parents, higher cost of living meaning that there is less supervision because parents have to work more, aggressive marketing of TV and video games, more paranoia about the dangers they might encounter if they dared to venture outside (read: hysterical media) etc. I could go on all day. I don't think diet has a great deal to do with it. I grew up on fast food and junk, but always took a lot of exercise so it just got burned up.

Fast food and laziness or lack of time combine together to form obese children. Lazy parents or working parents that have no time to cook take their kids out to places to eat. Since mothers of today are working, they don't make dinner every night, and take the shortcut of just taking their kids to a nearby McDonalds. Kids get used to this way of eating, and end up eating a lot of it. I think this is a well thought answer myself, and I think that people should start looking up old recipes and making dinner once in awhile.

flat up laziness.
as a kid I rode a bike, built tree forts in the woods, would walk the neighborhood w/ buddies at night, play tag football over 5 yards.
I watched my half brothers 20 yrs behind me do none of the above but sit inside every day eating potato chips and playing video game after video game. And today they are both easily 8 years behind where I was in basic every day smarts and knowledge.
No wonder kids of today have no brain or what not...they were raised not too. They were raised to stare and be fed info, nothing more.

The children's parents doing the following:
1. Giving children juice like it's water. There is a lot of sugar in juice.
2. Parents keeping their children inside in front of the tv.
3. Parents having horrible eating habits, and feeding their children the same sort of high fat, fried food diet that they eat.

1. Soft drinks. Look how many calories are in that Coke. 200+, and you drink 2 per day, and your recommended daily caloric intake is only 1200...Do the math. Plus, the calories are almost pure sugar.
2. Foods served at schools. It is horrible that innocent kids are being marketed and targeted by fast food companies in public schools.

I think its 4 things mainly
1) junk food
2)fast food
3) being lazy sitting around watching tv or playing games
4)treated milk
We drink our milk boiled with water it tastes healthier and there are results, truly treated milk is a dangerous thing. as well as milk in general. Think about it mother cows give their abaies their milk so they get fatter and grow. correct? we feed our children cow milk so what can we expect especially if the milk is treated.
