ok, weather or not they'll eat it is another question but you can use any fruits of vegetables other than onions, avocados and ice burg lettuce, some favorites are grapes, shredded carrots, and parsley. you can also feed them COOKED pasta, or rice. and i actually had a lot of luck feeding one on my conures baby food. when you do get to go to the store, pelleted food is much better than seed, but be for warned, it can take a while to get them to eat it. you would want to mix the food gradually increasing the ratio of pellets to seed over a period of at least a couple weeks but don't be surprised if it takes a couple months. pellets are better because although a bird may choose a favorite shape or color all the pieces have the same nutritional balance, where as in seed he can pick and choose and not get a balanced diet. also with seed there is a lot more waste and mess from the seed hulls that you don't get with pellets.

Well, for my 6 parakeets I usually feed the little birds a budgie treat, a favorite flavor for mine are Honey and Fruit/Vegetable. Sometimes I'll give them a small amount of fruit. (They pokes grapes o-o;;) Otherwise I just feed them budgie food.
HintHint*;
I used to have two birds before, and got more, long story short, Make sure you get a brand of budgie/parakeet food that your birds like otherwise they'll strave and die. I recommend treats.
[Mine try to eat everything o---O;;]

Bread is popular with my birds. I use the crusts and thread it on a toy. They also love veggies and fruit such as apple, corn, and carrots. Scrambled egg with the shell still on will make a great once a week dinner. There's also sprouts and dandelion leaves. If you collect dandelions, make sure they've not been sprayed with fertilizer.
Budgies will even eat Tofu! If you're really stuck, they'll eat stuff like cheerios strung on a shoelace. My guys love it as it's not only food, but a fun toy ^.^ .

A hard boiled egg is good . Mine love it. Also you can give them lettuce and some carrots or wheat bread until tomorrow. The egg is what I read is a favorite of parakeets.

make sure that the food that you feed ur birds are natural. they'll luv fresh fruits & veggies. u could also feed them a whole grain type of cereal or bread. make sure none of the foods hav salt on them. sum arent good for certain parakeets.
