I am serious... My 6 year old son was playing on the bed and my 10 week old chihuahua fell off and hit the side table or so my 6 yr old says. anyway after that the dog acted really funny and disoriented and actually lost control of his body fluids. I am 9 months pregnant and I flipped out so my mother got the puppy and washed him off with a cool rag and kept talking to him because he acted as though he was having a seizure or something. Now I am worried because although he has come back to looking normal, he acts like he can't breathe too easily and I had to force water in his mouth with a med. dropper. He ate some soft food and then vomited. I called the vet already and he told me to just keep an eye on him all night and make sure he would wake up every so often....THIS EVER HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE'S PUPPY???? Please serious answers only I am very attached to this puppy I have had him for 6 weeks and I bottle fed him and everything. He's like a child to me!!ANY & ALL ADVICE will help!

He acts as though he is lost and confused. He will walk outside and use the bathroom as normal but he just hasn't got any "LIFE" to him. Usually he is chewing on you or jumping around like he has ADHD or something but now he just lays in my lap and don't move. He has me worried bad!! Maybe it's just a pregnant thing but I am too scared to even try to go to sleep, I want to just make sure he is breathing constantly..

Sorry, but small kids and fragile dogs, like Chis, do not mix. Chi's have an soft spot on their heads most often and they could easily get hurt with the slightest bump to their head. You should not be leaving a young child alone with such a fragile dog. You're lucky the Chi has not died or has started to recover at all. I would just keep doing what the vet asked you to do and at the slightest change of him, take him to an emergency vet. My fiance's cousin dropped her young Pom and she hit her head. The dog had severe swelling and her eyes were sorta crossed for a few weeks after that. She has recovered since then. Has he still be showing signs of improvement? If he has then he should be ok, just keep a close eye on him, take him to the Emergency Vet immediatly if things change and in the future supervise people (young or old) with your very delicate puppy. You have to. These dogs depend on you to protect them, because when they only weigh a pound or two then cannot do anything to help themselves. Good luck to you, I don't mean to be rude but I know these animals well and know how fragile they are. I have a small Chi that is the world to me and I watch over her, especially around people, and I don't really let kids play with her. They can pet her when I have her but she is just to precious to take a chance with her. And she is almost a year old. Good luck, I hope nothing but the best for you and your little baby Chi.

Take him to the Vet u idiot! This is why alot of breeders won't sell puppies and kittens to people with small children. If your child fell and hit his head, you would certaintly seek medical attention right away, right? The puppy probably went into shock and needs medication to reverse it, may be too late now. Also, find a new Vet...you NEVER give medical advice over the telephone and they should have told u to promptly bring him in. C'mon people, seriously!!

I am like you, I have 2 labs that are my children and I would be searching for ways to correct a head trauma in either of them. I would of course take the dog to the vet immediately and then if I saw anything not right, I'd take it back and in the meantime, I'd be reading any and everything about trauma to a dog's head. Vets know a lot today they didn't use to know. Hope you soon find answers and that these sites will help you.

It sounds like the puppy has a concussion. Chi's also can have an open fontanel...a soft spot...on top of their heads and can have brain injury if hit just right. Please take the pup to an emergency vet right now or you do risk losing him. DO NOT try to force fluids or food on him while he is like this...he could aspirate and choke. :(
