When the child starts to show an interest. My son will be 2 next month and he has started following us into the bathroom and yesterday he was standing with his back to the toilet and tried to pull himself up on it. We are going to get pull-ups this weekend for him.

When the baby is interested in the potty stays dry through a nap anywhere from age 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 years usually

The child will potty train when they are ready. This is usually around age 2. Don't force it, let it come at a natural pace. And make potty time fun with special toys, colorful books, etc. Make these special for just potty time.

It depends on the kid, but with most, I'd wait as late as 2 1/2. My experience is that your child will "get it" at the same age whether you start at 18 months or 2 1/2. They usually "get it" right before their 3rd birthday. So you can spend a year and a half working on it or 6 months. It's your stress.

I started training my oldest girl at 18 months. She wasn't reliably potty trained until a month or two before her 3rd birthday. I started with my son when he was 2 1/2 and he was reliably potty trained a month or two before his 3rd birthday. I wish I could get back that year and a half of hassle and mess with my daughter.
MY BIGGEST ADVICE FOR EVERYONE: avoid the pull-ups. They are only good for the first week or two when you first start potty training and for sleeping in. Pull-ups are diapers, they will soil them. Put them in underwear and things will go faster.

i was wondering the same thing. from my family's experience and reading the book it seems that you should start potty training when the child knows he or she has messed their diaper. my daughter turned 2 in April and i thought that she was more than ready to start potty training. she has just now responded to using the potty. at first she wouldn't cooperate for anything. when she realized how uncomfortable it was to be in a wet diaper she gladly took to potty training. let your child tell you in its own way. (within reason) don't rush he or she. (it makes it worse)

I hope mom is potty trained way before she gets knocked up. Nothing like having two in diapers.

LOL

Mothers should already be potty trained.

i tried to start when my daughter was around 2, but it was frustrating and took a long time. So, I decided to just keep her in pullups, and then one day she just decided that she wanted to use the toilet. And that was that! I've heard other mothers say the same thing, that they just waited until their child was just "ready", usually around 2 1/2 or so. It makes life a lot easier!
