This is what happened according to my knowledge. The Jews knew the last Prophet was coming from the descendant of Abraham (PBUH). Abrhaam has two sons, Issac and Ishmail. Most prophets came from the line of Issac (PBUH) but the last prophet came from the descendant of Ishmail (PBUH). They did not expect that and were angry that Prophet Mohamad wasn't among them but was from the tribe of Quraish of Mecca. So they refused to beleive him (that's called pride and ego u know!!!!) and remained Jews. I don't know who they worship, it could be Allah but because they don't beleive in Prophet Mohammad, they are not Muslims.
