I've noticed a disturbing trend. Almost NO ONE waits anymore when they see someone backing out of a parking space.
I can't even begin to count the times in the last 6-12 months, that I was backing up and had other cars nearly shave off my car's behind as they continued driving past. And it's not because I'm slow or back up poorly. I do it quickly & efficiently. :) Still, it seems like only 1 in 10 have the COMMON COURTESY to wait just the few extra SECONDS it takes for me to finish. :( The majority go right by, almost causing a collision!
I don't believe that ALL these folks simply didn't see me backing up. I think the majority see, but don't give a damn. They're so entrenched in the "me-me-me" and "go-go-go!" mindset that they can't stand to wait even a MOMENT. Manners obviously don't matter either.
BTW, I'm not the only one this happens to. Several family members & friends experience it too. Anyone else experienced it? And can anyone EXPLAIN it? :( It's so disheartening!

Thanks all! :) I really appreciated everyone's answers (well, except for the very last guy).
There were at least 4 people whose answers I wanted to pick as "Best", but of course I can't. So I'm going to put the question up for a majority vote. May the best answer win! And thanks again, all! :) I'm glad to know I'm not alone in what I"ve been witnessing/experiencing, although I'm sorry it's so widespread. Here's to better driving in the future!!

I agree people are way too much in a hurry. Also, people in Kansas think turning signals are optional. It is so annoying.

No your not the only one. People do that, and worse to me ALL the dang time and it just ticks me off. The last year has gotten even worse. In all the years I have been driving (trust me, a long time..lol) I have never seen it this bad.
I believe we have way to many drivers on the roads, and many of them are either self taught or had just a parent teach them the basics. Most of these idiot drivers are mid 30's to early 40's.. And I hate to say, but women are the worst about letting you out. And then they FLIP ME OFF!..HAHA
The younger drivers are much better because most now are taking actual driving courses. Like my son. I paid 325.00 for his driving school..(ran and owned by cops..hehe)
And it doesn't matter where you live anymore either, the problem is wide spread.. If people could just be thoughful, and also use their eyes and brain, things would go much smoother!
Oh YEAH the cell phones!!! OMG I am sooo sick of seeing people on sell phones while driving! They have outlawed the use of cell phones in many states, only hands free..
And even some states are going as far as NO cell phone usage while driving.. I have friends that call me up while they are driving just to chat cus they are bored!

I know exactly what you are talking about. I just got my temps a few weeks ago and my parents take me driving eveyday for an hour. I try to go the speed limit on every road and the pple behind me start honking! and I'm going to limit. They are all just trying to get around the "slow person" they don't even consider it could be a new driver and how hard they are making it for them. All people think about anymore is themselves, so I make it a point to be the "nice person" when I go out. It would be a much better world if everyone did the same.

You did a pretty good explanation as far as I can see. What I wonder is how unthinking people are. I recently backed out of a parking space and got promptly cussed out by two people who were standing behind a big SUV and were there before I got into the car. They just then decided to move and just then found my just then backing out was endangering them. A few days ago, I watched a pedestrian standing at a corner which was also a bus stop. I was the only car in blocks. When I arrived at the intersection, just then he decided to cross and began cursing me for not stopping for him since he just then stepped into the crosswalk.
Hang in there, while it won't get better, there are better cars coming. Eventually, the cars will be stopping when the idiot drivers haven't the sense to. Watch for them.

Well while on the subject of RUDE Selfish Drivers...I want to shout out a BIG YEAH! for the drivers of CORPUS CHRISTI Texas..While at a senior high graduation this May 2006 and a visit before that one my sister and I observed something that really SHOCKED the pants off of us. (we live in the road rage capital of the world it seems) HOUSTON TEXAS. As i was saying we observed people in Corpus Christi texas all yield to traffic as they exited freeways . We looked at each other like deer looking at headlights. we were raised in Kerrville Texas where people are or were at least considerate. Yea for Corpus christi drivers Keep it up ! Todays generations is in too much of a hurry with a me me attitude! It's get the hell out of my way or die ! My question to those people that get behind you while you are backing up is " ARE YOU CRAZY ?????I have gotton out of my car and asked them HOW OLD R YOU ? Even a 3 year old knows not to get behind a moving car dummy . People want $$$ They have a HIT Me attitude... I'll sue !! Shame Shame .

People have no courtesy anymore. They think they are number one and you don't matter. I almost got caught in a pile up today on the interstate because the morons wouldn't move over and let the cars on the in ramp on. I also notice that a lot of the drivers who nearly run you over seem to have a cel phone attached to the side of their head .. LOL

not me. although my personal favorites are the ones with "tunnel vision" they only see ahead of the car, not who's behind or to the side. don't use blinkers and just move as they please not even realizing they nearly killed my a*ss with that illegal lane change. love them.........so much
