No draft. We don't want those people in the Army. It is good that we are tightening the rules on enlistments and only taking the best.

The draft did not work because only the poor and uneducated class who didn't have the resources to acquire deferments actually served. (during Vietnam).
Do you think there will be no protesters or hippies if there is a draft? What is worse, a Vice President who used his connections to obtain 5 deferments who lied about WMD in Iraq who is now sending our military into a war we cannot win? - or some guy with a sign in his hand that can ignore. I choose the hippy - at least he won't get me or my son killed.
If they do re-institute a draft, they need to draft all males and female from 18-34 with no deferments. (your number called, you go - no more college deferments). No more political interference.

Absolutely, draft everyone...including all the daughters out there.
That will help end the war in Iraq really quick. Once we all have a stake in this war or any future war, then maybe we'll be less quick about sending the kids from rural Oklahoma, Nebraska and Alabama to die.
We did that once....WWII and the result produced the Greatest Generation. Vietnam should have shown Americans the great failure in allowing only those without other options to lose their lives in a conflict that was not important enough to require the entire will of the American People. We are doing the same thing in Iraq. If we as a nation determine that we are going to war, then Congress needs to declare it and the American People...all of us need to be a part of winning it. And if it's not really important enough to require all Americans, then maybe we shouldn't be there in the first place.

No Draft.
Conscription is a direct infringement of basic human rights. No one can force me to do anything with my person I dont' want them to, including joining the military to fight for a cause I may or may not believe in. If you draft, there will be even MORE protests. You're not going to stop Pride, or anti-war protests with the Draft. Quite the opposite.

Slowly reversing my opinion about the draft. Now I favor it. Donald Rumsfeld's idea about a lean military -- outsourcing everything -- has created a war profiteering bonanza that has been terribly wasteful as no-bid contracts are never tied to quality or performance. The military used to be an option for young people that provided opportunities to develop transferable skills. Now only warriors need apply. War profiteering encourages experienced men and women to leave the military to take jobs with private security firms (with military contracts) for much greater rewards rather than re-enlistment. With a draft and ordinary citizens' sons and daughters serving, leaders might not lead us into wars so cavalierly. Many patriotic people are ashamed about what has happened in our names by this administration. Triage is called for. Every young person making some contribution to country might restore what has been lost. What happened to our country?

i predict a draft. We are putting our troops in prison so fast that volunteers are not entering the services. A draft is needed and it will be needed for a long time to come.

The main reason we lost Viet Nam was the draft. If you conscript people who don't want to be there, they demoralize and discourage those that do. It's like inviting a cancer on the diehard, believers of military might.

If they can't recruit enough personal it would be ok to draft. The Department of Defense is totally against it though.

No Draft.
The military does not want conscripts.
If the military can not hire the number of people it wants to they will have to raise pay and incentives like any civilian company would (except that the civilian government workers union demands the same pay raises the military gets)
