The emergency room isn't going to be able to do anything for you, except maybe give you pain medication.
If you have a regular dentist, call and at least leave a message that you need to get in as soon as possible. If it throbs and does this all the time then you need to call your dentist at his emergency number.
If it just hurts when you get food stuck in it and when cold hits it, I would get the temporary filling material and essentially plug the hole till Monday when you can get into the dentist. Be sure to clean the area well before placing the material, you dont want to make matters worse!
You probably developed decay in the tooth since the dentin, or inside of your tooth was exposed after the filling came out. This part of the tooth can develop decay much easier than the hard enamel on the outside of teeth. That also may be the cause of the filling coming out.
You shouldn't have waited to call the dentist, you should have called when the filling came out, but that is all in the past now. You will know if it ever happens again though!
Oh when you call and leave a message tell the truth! Say if you are in pain and how long. They will know if it is an urgent matter. If you lie (as others have told you to) and say there is swelling and extreme pain, when you have your appointment, the dentist (or assistant) will know you lied and not take you as seriously the next time, when it really may be an emergency! This may be why the others that have answered have a hard time getting in when they have a problem! We really dont appreciate it when patients lie!

Sympathies! Toothaches are miserable...
I'm not sure the emergency room has a dentist. If there are no dentists available on the weekends, make sure you get to a dentist as soon as you can on Monday. Tell them it's an emergency and you're having a lot of pain so they know to see you that day. Temporary filling might help a little until then, but again, get it taken care of ASAP.

do whatever you can to stop the pain, buy a temporary filling kit and take something for the pain. Call your dentist on monday and complain about how much pain your in...even if you have to milk it...lol. I don't know about the dentists in your area, but around here you have to wait like a month to get it unless you whine about the pain, even if your lying.Say the side of your face is swelling and your nose hurts too...thats signs of an absessed tooth and needs attention asap...i've totally lied before and said that same line.

Hi,,,,, let me tell you what is happening,,,, the filling is there to keep food out,,, and the cavity is close to the nerve of the tooth....
Now,, you waited too long,, the nerve is infected or hurt and therefore you hurt....
go to the emergency room.... thats the only place you can get some relief..... or the hospital that has your dentist ......
good luck

My daughter is a dental hygienist and when I lost a filling on a weekend, she told me to buy the wax that you use for braces. She told me to keep wax on the tooth to keep food particles out and to keep air from hitting it. You can take motrin or tylenol for pain. That worked for me, until I could get to the dentist the next week. Hope it helps you. Good luck!

Yes, but get it fixed ASAP. You're running the risk of a gum infection and then you've got major problems like the loss of teeth and other fun-filled experiences. Get thee to a dentist first thing Monday morning!!!!

sorry you must have a infection, you need meds to get rid of it.A dentist will cut the nerve, tell you need a root canal and a crown. So unless you got good insurance or a bit of cash or good credit you might have to get the tooth pulled. but till you go to the dr try listerine like 5 times a day

Get some of the temporary filling. Works fine until you can see your dentist. And it won't hurt when you eat.
