I currently active duty Navy and we are overworked and underpaid! Yes it's true we have military benefits like tax-free shopping at the commissary and the exchange as well as money for college.
But there's a lot more to it than people think. For example, I am an E-5 and my pay each month averages $1700 before taxes. If you break that down I end up making $10.63 an hour but that's still before taxes.
Yes it's a lot higher than minimum wage, but ask yourself if it's worth $10.63 an hour not to see your family and friends for 6 months straight when you go on deployment. Not to mention we work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week while underway and we don't have "overtime" because it doesn't exist in the military. So whether we work 8 hours a day or even sometimes 18 hours a day, our pay stays the same month after month.

How idiotic.
Minimum wage was essentially for jobs kids were taking on part-time through high school. You are not expected, nor is it intended that minimum wage gives you a nice life. I used to make $3.35/hr. I make just a little bit more than that now. You have to start somewhere. I went from low income to upper middle class and the potential is there for most to do the same, or much better. Believe me when I tell you, the lower classes are not paying the bills and they are not being held down by "the Man." We live in a capitalistic system where opportunity abounds. Take advantage of it.
Raising the minimum wage excessively kills jobs. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. When will the Dems ever get it?

What "military benefits" are you babbling about?
And if they were so good, then wouldn't all the downtrodden and oppressed lower and middle classes be lining up to join the military to take advantage of those military benefits?
But to your point on minimum wage -> perhaps if you enhanced your skills with some training, then you would be worth more than $5/hour to potential employers. I know that sounds crazy, but it really works! Education is something no one can take away from you. But it is also something that no one can give you.

All the minimum wage does is keep unskilled workers like high school students / drop outs. If you think you should be paid more get a new job, but don't tell some one else what they should do with their money.
There should be no minimum wage, when you raise the minimum wage, some minimum wage workers loose their job.

The downtrodden and lower class are NOT enlisting. The middle class and upper class are enlisting. Get your facts yourself, not from Michael Moore.
