Ok sometimes if someone is depresed they think about dying right?

Sometimes I think about dying and stuff, but I can't really see myself actually doing it. I don't know if I could so I don't consider myself suicidal. I mean, I pinched myself a little too hard once on accident because I was feeling really depressed and like anxious and it made a mark on me, but I've never tried to mutilate myself in any way before. If I feel depressed sort of often can I become suicidal or start hurting myself? How often to you have to be depressed for that happen?

thank you for that lovely comment about me actually doing it. That was soo helpful.

That was sarcasm, by the way lol.

I think my solution will be to not worry about it unless I try to hurt myself.

Depression often leads to self-destructive thoughts. I think about killing myself on a daily basis, but it would be harmful for my child, so I can't do it.

If it is at all possible, get counseling. Once I had no money and no insurance so I went to the free clinic and they had counseling available.

If you can go to a psychiatrist and get some meds, try that. Sometimes you have to try a few different prescriptions before something works.

One thing you can try on your own is keeping a diary. Write down how you feel, including whether you felt like hurting yourself. Also write down as many good memories as you can to give yourself some positive images to replace the negative thoughts. Write down some good things about yourself to offset "I'm terrible" thoughts we tend to dwell on. Try writing to yourself as you would to a friend you care about.

Good luck.

If depression lasts more than a couple of weeks you should seek some help (other than here).

Generally women attempt suicide several times before they actually do it. They also tend to obsess about the idea and the actual act before taking action. If you start hurting yourself physically in any way get help.

If that describes you get help now. If there is a suicide hot-line in your area...call it. They will not judge you and are trained to talk with people in a tough spot. They will also be able to refer you to a local mental health specialist.

You are right I think everyone feels that way from time to time. There's nothing wrong with it unless it becomes an obsession or starts effecting other parts of your life (school, work, family).

Suicidal thoughts are a textbook symptom of depression. However, every case is different and not all depressed people will get every possible symptom of depression. There is really no way of predicting whether or not you could become suicidal. But it would be a good idea to consider what symptoms you have and how your life would improve if you didn't have them. A doctor can explain this to you and he/she may be able to lessen and/or eliminate the symptoms with medication. If you have a pastor, he/she can give you guidance on spiritual issues relating to depression. If you're hurting a lot please do yourself a favor and get help. I pray that you feel better.

I'm depressed as well.
Have been for the past 3 years, but I'm still living an everyday life.
It hurts I know, and I've learned many things.

First, depression is just like everything else.....it doesn't last forever.
In the beginning, I've always thought on the pessimistic side and thought I wasn't going to make it. What I NOW know is that it doesn't help to think that way because it leads you even DEEPER into depression.

Think positive, and sooner or later it will go away.

I guess I haven't really answered your question about the suicide thing, but what I'm trying to do here is to convince you NOT to think that way. Life is great!

It really is. :-)

If you feel depressed and these feelings and thoughts are not going away then you should talk to someone about it. Sometimes talking about what is going on inside of you with someone who is understanding and trusting can help you out of your depression. Exercising can also help with your moods. There is always a way out of it and suicide isn't the right way.

depending on how old you are you may need to get some medication. Counseling is also a really good thing for someone in your situation.

Please know that your life is worth something, everyone has value and can contribute. Like the answer before, try praying and please let someone close to you know what you are going through. Sometimes when people are depressed they need other people to help them sort things out.

GET HELP. talk to your doctor. I was the same way. I would think about hurting myself, but I wasn't going to do it. Then one day I had a terrible anxiety attack along with a deep deppression. I was couldn't sit still and pacing and looking at everything as a means to hurt myself. I lost control because for some reason that night I was so over whelmed with anxiety and depression, I lost the self control I thought I had. Please dont wair for it to get worse.

Two suicide questions in one day... Not a good night.

I suggested to the other person that they might want to read an essay I wrote on depression at:

http://liam-and-janet.blogspot.com/2005/02/what-depression-means-to-me.html

It might help, if only to know that you're not alone.

But no pressure, I've just been there and I know what you're going through, and if reading it helps even just a little bit, then it's worth it.

Although suicidal thoughts can occur with someone who is depressed, they do not have to occur. Often people can experience depression without any thought of self harm.

It is however, very normal for any of us to consider our own death. We do so for spiritual or religious issues as well as just out of curiosity and of course as we see those around us die.

All that being said, if you have persistent thoughts of harming yourself, you need to report this to someone. Even if you don't have any intention of harming yourself, you need to let your doctor know.

In my experience, most people who make an attempt to harm themselves are actually asking for help. Make sure you don't drink or use drugs. They can dis-inhibit you and can make you feel that it is OK to harm yourself. Suicide is not OK on any level.

in my opinion, I merely imagine it is extra media-orientated, suicide/melancholy/etc. merely because it is develop into so a lot extra open/a lot less puzzling to communicate about. i'm easily no longer putting forward it would not exist, I conflict through from it to boot, yet i imagine it is extra or a lot less a classic element of existence. i might want to work out the position your opinion comes from being LGBT & suicide expenditures being more desirable, because they're usually extra ridiculed in social criteria. i wager it quite relies upon on your history, father and mom, region, gender, etc. And, like you, very nearly, or all, of my LGBT have had suicidal themes from melancholy to committing. also like I already said, i imagine it is the way they're considered + media + merely the way your mind is chemically stressed. it is merely extra the norm in recent times you would possibly want to say.
