Acknowledge you are but dust. Hopelessly lost without a prayer in the universe of saving yourself much less extending your own life one hour. Seek The LORD through spiritual worship. Placing your ambitions, wants, sin at the foot of the cross in faith and leaving them there in newness of life rise to obedience in following the example of Messiah. Worship God by daily sacrificing your will to the will of the Holy Spirit. Relying on the promises that you are a child of The Most High God whose sin has been taken away once and for all, wait. God will remind you of his presence at every turn. Read the Bible, in a reliable translation. The best Bible to read is the one you already have. Don't stop reading. Read it all the way through. Then listen to it in the car or while you are getting ready for work/school. Again, read it or choose to take a chapter or two a day. You may never be called to do anything great or exciting like become a prophet or healer or teacher. Your first responsibility is to love God and enjoy Him forever. Everything else comes in second. A good Bible believing church won't hurt either. They are hard to find. they do not always accept everyone. A good church realizes it is a lifeboat and not a cruise-ship.

1. Understanding that you are a sinner and cut off from God by your rebellion against Him.
2. Believing that Jesus Christ, who was God in the flesh, died on the cross to pay the price for your sins to make the way back to God.
3. Accepting that payment for your sins by making Jesus Christ the Lord of your life.

True believer in Christ. First you must ask Jesus into your heart
to forgive you of your sins, be baptized in the name of the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Most importantly you
must work to serve him, to obey him 24/7. Because once you
are forgiven you are to stop doing things as you did in the past.
And believe the Holy Bible is the infalible woed of God.
Prayer, meditation, and praise! Daily all day! not when you need him or when you want to! Christian means Christ like in all we say and do.

I have to agree with the first answer, faith with works "proves" a belief in Christ.

You'll know a true believer by their Love. They love people whether they feel like it or not, they are fairly consistent in their steadiness and mostly content, no matter the circumstances.

WOW, I think I would have to quote the entire New Testament to answer that question sufficiently.

Rom 10:8 On the contrary, what does it say? The message is near you, in your mouth and in your heart. This is the message of faith that we proclaim:
Rom 10:9 if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom 10:10 With the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation.
Rom 10:11 Now the Scripture says, No one who believes on Him will be put to shame,
Rom 10:12 for there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, since the same Lord of all is rich to all who call on Him.
Rom 10:13 For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Someone who actually gives their life for Christ. It is more than just saying a prayer and saying I'm sorry. It is living your life for God. It is turining away from your old life of sin and living a new life completly. Not just on Sunday morning, but all week!

First, you have to accept Christ as your saviour and ask for forgiveness of sins. Then you have to actually live your life for Christ.

Being regenerated or "born again" by the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:12 For just as the body is one and has many parts, but all the parts of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and we were all given to drink into one Spirit.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." 4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born, being old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" 5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless someone is born of water and of Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' 8 "The wind blows where it wills, and you hear its sound, but you do not know from where it comes and where it goes. So is everyone who has been born of the Spirit."

The evidence of this is a changed life marked by doing good deeds in the name of Jesus.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

The word "again" (anothen) in Greek means "from above", so born from above.

John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

We all are born of the flesh and water, the womb. You must be born from above or the Spirit. God's Word is His Spirit. I pray that helps you. Sow to your spirit by studying His Word which is God's Spirit.

KEEP MY WORDS
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

NOTICE; WE will come, make OUR abode with him.
