I'm fixing to become an officer in the Marine Corps and doing that as long as possible. What college major is best for this?

History or political science sounds good.

I don't think any college's are currently offering Death & Destruction as a major.

Good luck & stay safe!

If you are young and can handle the rigorous admission process, opt for the United States Naval Academy (everything is free...free books, tuition, room and board courtesy of Uncle Sam). If you're not accepted opt for the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School to brush up and then try again! An acquaintance of mine did so and he got accepted. If these are out of the question, opt for Naval ROTC while you're in college. Or join the Marine Corps outright than opt for the Green-to-Gold. But, to the point, the best major is history, economics, political science, or engineering. History teaches you to analyze and rationalize historical events and apply to current events. Economics teaches you analytical and reasoning skills you need to learn to think clearly and articulately. Political science teaches you about government and these skills are very useful as military campaigns are sometimes purely motivated by politics. Engineering (especially civil or mechanical engineering) is perfect because you're out in the field, and sometimes you have to build barracades, etc. even in infantry (or at least that's what I am told).

I would say management of business administration. Perhaps a minor in History. Most universities do not offer degrees in Military Science, in spite of what was said earier.
It also makes a difference where you intend to go to school. Where I went, it was nearly unheard of for engineering majors to take ROTC because both are very time consuming. You need to investigate whether ROTC credit actually counts toward your chosen degree program.

Good luck!

I knew officers in the Navy who were English majors. It really doesn't matter what you major in. Major in something that you are good at so that you can get good grades. If you get into the Naval Academy, or if you get an ROTC scholarship, you will have to maintain good grades throughout college. If you pick a major that you are no good at, then keeping your grades up will be really difficult and stressful. Good luck!

My son is a Lt. & US Army Ranger & his degree is in Business Adminstration, he will be going to Graduate school while in the Army (they assign the school as his post) and his Masters will be in Economics.

His friend is an Attorney, so I do not think one degree is preferred over another. Colin Powell had a Geology Degree & became a 4 star General..
