In recent days two terrorist organizations have both launched miliatry attacks across international borders into Israel. Hamas, which recently won control of the Palestinian government, attacked from within the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah, a faction that controls the Southern part of Lebanon, attacked across that border. In each case the terrorists killed Israeli soldiers and kidnapped others. Though Israel has sometimes ignored attacks in the past or negotiated with the terrorists, this time it responded with a widspread military counterattack, probably because the terrorist groups are backed by the governments of Iran and Syria. Israel believes that Syria sponsored the first attack and that Iran ordered the second. Iran is developing nuclear weapons and has recently questioned the existence of the holocaust and said it wants to see the annihilation of Israel, and Israel, for its part, feels that if it does not respond the attacks will only grow bolder. With massive military superiority Israel has struck targets at will all over Palestine and in Lebanon, but the people of these countries are strongly against Israel as we have seen time and time again it is impossible to subdue an entire people even with military superiority. The terrorist militas, lacking much direct military strength, have responded mostly by attacking civilian targets, further inflaming Israeli sentiments.
The origin of the conflict between Israel and its neighbors is too complex to describe quickly, but it basically boils down to ownership of land. Jews had coexisted with Muslim Arabs in the Middle East for centuries, and through most of the time got along better than anyone did with the Christians. However, more recent politics, and some bad decisions by the British government in the process of withdrawing as a Colonial power, put the two groups in competition for the same land. Both sides were extremely zealous and ruthless in dealing with the other. That's a very broard overview but you would have to study all of the events to get the full picture.

The war between Israel and Lebanon is suppose to root out Habollozah because they terrorize the Israeli people. This is quite worrisome. The United States backs Israel, but the Middle East (most particularly Iran and Syria, which is considered "evil" by Bush administration) backs Lebanon. That sounded like WWI when the Franz Ferinarnd, Archduke of Austria, was assassinated by a Serb nationalist. Austria declared war on Serbia (like Isreal declared war on Lebanon after the kidnappings of Israeli citizens). Austria was backed by Germany, and Serbia was backed by Russia, France, and the British Empire. The conflict between Austria and Serbia esclalated into WWI. Of course, I am not saying the conflict between Israel and Lebanon will result in WWIII but history tends to repeats itself.

The wave of terrorism that began in September 2000 is the direct result of a strategic Palestinian decision to use violence - rather than negotiation - as the primary means to advance their agenda.

To try to keep it simple is very difficult. It all started with Abraham, Sarah & Hagar (Sarah's handmaiden). God promised Sarah & Abraham a son. However Sarah was old and doubted God so she "gave" Hagar to Abraham in order for her to bear them a son. Hagar concieved Ishmael. Eventually Sarah had a son too. His name was Isaac and later was changed to Israel. Ishmael was an Arab & Isaac was a Jew. God promised the land to of Israel to Issac; not Ishmael. They have been fighting over that land for centuries because of Sarah's unbelief. That is the jest of what all of the fighting is about.

Its about misunderstanding and miscommunication that has built up over the years. Unfortunately, the cost is incalculable, financially and in human lives.

These people have been killing each other for thousands of years--claiming each others land-- and there will be no lasting peace any time soon.
