I'd take nutri-grain bars and Craisins. Also, you may want to take some Snickers. I had a Snickers the morning I ended up in a roll-over car accident several hours from my home. By the time I dealt with the police, medics, etc., and made it back to my house, it'd been almost a full day and all I had to go on was that Snickers. I survived. It wasn't pleasant and I was ready to hurt someone, but you can get by with very little for 30 hours. Try cutting back the week or two before you leave so you're used to eating less. It won't seem so traumatic. As part of my religion, I fast for 24-hours straight once a month. It really isn't so bad. The toughest part is that you'll be sitting and it's easy to get bored, which once you're bored, it's easy to just want to eat. Think of other things to do too.

Granola bars, fruit snacks, cheese and crackers, fresh fruit. There are a lot of different things you can take. We took all of this when we were on a 3 day train trip across the country and we did fine. We did eat at some or the restaurants that the train occasionally stopped at along the way but for the most part we ate the food that we brought with us. And I recommend that you bring your own comfy pillow and warm blanket because when we were on the train they would turn down the air conditioning at night and if you didn't have a blanket you you had to by one from them. They were very small and scratchy and very expensive!! Other than that we had a wonderful trip...I hope the same to you!!

Do they not offer food on the train?
Before boarding, if possible, get something at the station or en route to the station. That way you won't live on sandwiches the entire duration of the trip. How about those little tuna and crackers packages? You could get a tupperware container and take a salad...with the dressing separate. I know Avon sells something like that. There's this refreezable ice ring to keep it cool. Fruit is always good...grapes, apples, bananas, fruit salad. Spaghetti salad is really good.
Take lots of water...it's good for you! *g* As for snacks, I'd bring crackers, rice krispie treats, apple sauce, candy bar, etc.

Wow! That is a long train ride. Lots of good scenery I'd suspect though. As far as stuff to pack I'd take stuff that's not prone to getting squashed or require being kept cold. Things like Clif bars, trail mix, dried fruits, etc. If you take a look at REI's web site, they've got a lot freeze dried products (backpacker food) that you might find good for travel too.

Shelf stable meals if they have a microwave available.
If you are taking a small cooler that gives you more options.
Have a good variety, 30 hours is a good number of meals

freeze bottles of juice or water, of course the normal stuff 20 other people will mention. freeze candy bars, meal replacement bars and also peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches. all this will keep things like hardboiled eggs and yogurt safe to eat along the way, and caviar if you have a taste for it, i do.

Dole makes these really yummy fruit cups that you don't need to refridgerate, the're over by the canned fruit. You could make some hardboiled eggs, or bring a few fresh tomatoes.

Take some fruit, maybe some cereal bars, dried fruit or trail mix. Chocolate, never leave home without it!
