Dear Pastor,
You have obviously been standing on your head in a corner somewhere OUTSIDE of your Episcopal church way way too long. Your question just ain't right. I take it that you teach your congregation that homosexuality is acceptable and that Leviticus 20:13 is of no matter that we need to pay attention to. If you would omit that verse, then what about the other acts described between Lev. 20:01 and 20:22? ESPECIALLY 20:22? If you are asking this question because you are confused, you have definitely proved that you are confused. If you asked this question to see what kind of answer you would get, why don't you ask the inmates that need something to do about it? The inmates I speak of are of the question you asked three months ago. Maybe you could help them cope. Can any Atheist person honestly hate Christians without marrying one once? Can any religious person honestly hate the idea of burning in hell for all of eternity without trying it once? Something tells me that you are a person of suspicion and are hiding behind the guise of a holy man. But then again, God is your judge, not I. Will your name be in the Book of Life? I don't twist God's laws to fit my lifestyle. Itry to live my lifestyle by God's laws. ALL OF THEM!

We are to love one another according to God. Hating sin is not wrong, but hating the sinner is. It is not something easy for humans to be capable of. This is why we are also told not to judge.

Homosexuality and other sexually immoral acts are sins according to the bible and fall under the commandment against adultery. But so too, do many other sins under the other nine commandments. The reality is everyone is a sinner.

We are however, told not to associate with those who are unrepentant sinners, that is, commiting a sin with no regret, remorse, or acceptance of it as a sin. Example, a thief who thinks stealing is okay in God's eyes, an adulterer who thinks sleeping around is okay according to God, someone who believes in God and also worships other gods (Israelites did this often in the OT times). Very few fall into the unrepentant category, most people do bad things, but they know them to be wrong in God's eyes.

I'm a Christian, I've never tried it, and I don't know of a single person who hates homos except Fred Phelps, and everyone knows he's as misguided--in a different direction--as the homos themselves are.
What I do hate is the homos' constant attempts to legitimize their perverse and sinful lifestyle when it's clearly proscribed by God, even to the extent of calling for a complete revision of the Bible that will "wipe away" God's condemnation!
That said, I pray I will never forget that I'm just as much in need of Christ's salvation and forgiveness as they are.

Any person can honestly hate anything. But, I think you are trying to make us think about whether or not it is Christ-like to hate anyone. We all should hate, abhor, and abstain from all sins. Yes, it is a sin to be gay, to act upon tendencies to be gay. If one is tempted to lie with another person of the same gender, yes, to do such would be a sin and such person would need to repent. And, all other person who have a knowledge that a person has committed such a sin should seek to help that person repent. the "help" referred to does not constitute "hating" the person. Yet, if one is tempted to lie with another person of the same gender and ejects such a temptation from one's mind without entertaining it, then one has not sinned. Temptations in and of themselves are not sins; a sin must be committed through willful action.

Furthermore, one should never try a sin imply to know what it is like or to put oneself in a position to understand those who also commit such sins. Christ suffered for all our sins and does indeed know what one is going through when one is tempted to li with another person of their same gender, just as He knows what I am going through when I am tempted to commit some other sin. I thank God that Christ is perfect and that on the Judgment Day I will be judged by a perfect judge and not my fellow man, who are fallible and tend to hate sinners rather than the sins themselves.

I don't know what you consider a "religious person" but I think I'm on safe ground when I say that I do not think that someone who is in a real relationship with Jesus and understands His Word can truly "hate " anyone.

And, if we are following Jesus, we AVOID sin, not "trying it once".

No honest religious person should hate them. We do not condone the sin, but we remember that Jesus died for this sin just like any other sin.

My dad has cancer. I don't have to experience cancer to know that it's not a good thing.

I can hate the sin of homosexuality without trying it.

I can hate drug use without trying it.

The examples go on and on.

Yes, it is possible. And we do not hate the people themselves, just their lifestyle and the fact that they have been sold lies.
