I am 48 years old and have had high blood pressure. I was seeing a doctor and he was constantly changing meds so it would be regulated (and I lost a lot of weight too-didn't help-parents/brother w/BP issues). I lost my job-things got really hard. I called doctor and told him (via office) that I had no health ins. or $$ but can he pls call presc. in. Secty said "you HAVE to come in" - I said I don't have the $$ and she said 'oh well'--was off meds for 4 months. BP was last 198/118-faxed doctor ltr - he finally called it in. I take 2 - 100 mg. of med per day. I've been stressed/felt horrible lately. Today is 1st day I had taken 2. I feel better already. Do you think it is psychological because I KNOW it's finally under control? I feel less stressed. I don't feel blood throbbing behind my eyes anymore either. Is it real or psychological after only 2 pills?

I don't have any way of checking it now - it is too late - no car and I can't afford the equipment so you don't need to say that's what I need to do.
Thank you for any information you have on the medication (Atenelol) sp????? and if it would work that fast or not.

I have high b.p. too, and take atenolol as well. I ran out, and didn't call the dr. and was off it for like 2 months, and my bp was like 140/98, but when I take it, it's controlled. I do know it works pretty quickly, it doesn't have to build up in your system like so many other drugs out there, so I would bet that your pressure is already down. Of course, you know, stress will make your pressure go up, so do what you can to keep it under control.

Your doctor should do what he/she can to help you out if you're w/o insurance, they can start a payment plan, or whatever. I would definitely tell doc that the receptionist was very dissmissive of your problem. Possibly in the future ask to speak to a nurse, rather than the receptionist. Your doc wouldn't want you to be w/o meds for that period of time, you were a walking time bomb waiting for a stroke to happen. Good luck, I hope you find another job soon, and congrats on the weight loss, I need to do that as well....

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

I'm on Atenolol, 2 per day and one Dialtezam. Atenolol does work that fast. The first week I was on them, I slept a lot. It affected me that quickly. I've been on my current combo of pills for about a year, and my BP stays around 135/90. Good luck to you.

I take Atenolol for high b/p as well. I think it is probably a combination of both that causes you to feel better. Honestly, my high b/p is genetic as well, but I think I contribute to it because I tend to get worked up over things and this causes it to go high. I have had good luck with this medicine. I take it at night before going to bed and I can tell the minute it starts working. I just feel very calm and relaxed. I sleep better at night, I feel better during the day so I really think it has helped me. I monitor my b/p reguarly, per doctors orders, but it is always ok as long as I take my medicine properly. Best of luck!

Atenolol is the generic name. The brand name is Tenormin. Please look these over and hopefully it will help you out with knowing more about the medication. Good health to you!
P.S. Think about finding another doctor. Chronically high blood pressure is not something to mess with.
