a writer writes....always. Do it every day. And don't write anything you wouldn't be able to defend in court!

If the diary is for purposes of disclosure or confession, see a therapist or a clergyperson. If the diary is to record objective facts or observations about something, include as many details as possible. For example, if writing about a new pet, mention the weight, the coloring, the price, the date and location of purchase, distinctive features of the pet, etc.

I write in my journal about the things that interest me, feelings I'm having or things that are happening. I try not to write anything I wouldn't want my kids to read...because someday, they MIGHT! When I go back and read my diaries from when I was a teenager, every page is the newest boy I'm "IN LOVE" with. Even those are funny and entertaining. They also show my kids that "Mom" was a kid once too.

Set up a new yahoo! email account and email your diary to yourself secretly!

Writing a diary daily is a great exercise to become a writer.

Put in it anything you want.
Don't listen to the suggestion you can't be honest in a diary. It never gave me problems even in the days before computers.

I have written in a "diary" almost everyday throughout high-school. It doesn't exactly depict everything that I did that day - but it is filled more with random thoughts, drawings, idea, poems, quotes, and some commentary on my everyday life. I carry it with me in my backpack/purse (my purse is huge and these notebooks aren't that large) and whenever I am inspired it just pops out. My goal in life is to become a writer, so I guess just writing all the time is just natural to me.

I am 55 and wish I had kept a diary/journal. There is so many things I wish I had written about and or recorded. Things people said, done ect; to or for me.
Things my parents/grandparents told me that I blew off....
Go for it! Don't miss a day.

Yes! Make sure you include just as many positive things as negative things. (If not more). I read back through my younger diaries and it's horrible! You'd think I had the worst life ever! You never know what happens to your stuff when you die...(and remember, anyone could die tomorrow...ok,sorry, that sounds brutal, but think about it...)

Include a lot of facts, names, places, events, prices, things, people, etc. and not just a jumble of feelings. Write it in such a way that ten years from now you can look back and see what was happening. This allows your to magnify your memory significantly.

Be sure to include your feelings and emotions along with the hard core facts of the day...

And, watch over the years how you change emotionally and mentally in your daily life.
