there's no substitute for sleep, and you need a certain amount of sleep to maintain a healthy body & brain. sleepiness is a sign that your body needs to rest so your brain can rest & restore itself too. the following tips will help, but they are short term solutions. you need to get in the habit if getting a good 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night, even more if you're a kid or teenager who is still growing, or if you have a very demanding, fast-paced schedule throughout the day.
---------------------
coffee
drink a soda with caffeine - my favorite: diet coke :-)
drink ice water
shower
stretch
quick walk
run up & down a flight of stairs a couple times
get some fresh air
splash cold water on your face
chew gum or ice
take some deep breaths & move around to get your mind off being comfortable & sleepy
listen to high-energy music
get less comfortable -- example: get off the couch & sit in a straight back chair at the kitchen table
call one of your loud, funny friends to talk to you, get you laughing, and make you feel more alert
walk to a 7-11 for a slurpee
eat an apple or some strawberries (or other fruit) -- natural sugar & vitamins in fruit are refreshing -- especialy apples & strawberries which research shows are especially good for alertness
do a wordsearch, crossword puzzle, sudoku or other brain teaser to get your brain more active.
play a video game for a little bit.
take a nap - a very short nap - maybe 15-20 minutes - to get refreshed without wasting a whole afternoon or sleeping so long you won't be able to sleep at night.
eat small meals instead of just a few big, heavy meals. overheating & being really full can make you more sleepy.
avoid alcohol & drugs, including cigarettes. they all alter brain chemistry & many deprive the brain of oxygen, resulting in feeling sleepy.

Cardio exercises are guaranteed to immediately refresh you. If you are tired, you may be tired in the beginning of doing them but continue on for at least 15 minutes. You will get a burst of energy, especially if you do 15 minutes of cardio a day: such as jumping jacks, running in place, etc. Google some good solo "at home" cardio exercises. I've been it for about 1 1/2 months and I now only need about 5-6 hours of sleep a nite (if that). It increases your stamina and metabolism which is necessary if you are in college, have kids, a high stress job, etc.

What's so important that you have NO time for sleep? Caffeine is popular. If you're still sleepy after getting sleep, that's a different question altogether. See a doctor for that one.

I usually grab something to eat with carbs, like a bagel, and coffee! I don't know if the actual coffee is actually helping me, or if it is just psychological, but either way it works! :)
