No it didn't it taught me that this world doesn't matter and I might as well kill myself.

You may laugh, you may cringe, but I wasn't able to wrestle with my so-called demons until after I deconverted. As long as I was a believer, God ruled my life and my happiness - or utter lack thereof - didn't matter. I lived for something outside of myself, a standard that I could never live up to.

Now what I do matters, because I'm not a puppet of God's will, I'm an independent being. My joy is mine, my pain is mine, and my works are mine. When I touch others' lives, it's me doing it and not the unseen hand of an unknowable being.

I touch the world, I change the world, the world is real to me now.

Which Christains are you speaking of? Those Catholic Christians who declared Hitler died in the name of Christanity? Or the Mormon Christians who believe in JSmith, a 19th century man who interpreted golden plates into 13th century language where none of the tribes, lands, rivers mentioned are found anywhere on earth? Or the Jehova Witness Christians who believe only 444,000 people will go to heaven and the men will be like Gods?
The word Christian is greatly misrepresented.

definitely, but that doesn't mean life is without trials. sometimes there are more trials you experience when you're a Christian (& think of the early A.D. days). but at least, you have a faith & a great Overseer & Lord to help you through it, & if you're part of a great church they can help too. the joy comes when you are victorious after a trial, & as you mature you can even learn to find the joy during the trial itself!
