yes start with the ears and just rub them then go down to the stomic and just rub the way the fur goes. Then go back up to the front legs.(But rember to do both legs.) Then go to the back legs and rub both legs then if they have a tail rub a the all the way down it if not just rub the stump. Then do the back the same way you did the stomic. Best of luck! : )

I have 2 big dogs....greyhounds....and they love being pet roughly, such as rubbing both sides while standing, or gently, like on the tummy. Both mine love to be scritched behind the ears for long periods of time...if they need more, I will scratch their foreheads (gently), muzzles, lower neck and sometimes they like to have their ears pulled and stroked. Whatever your dog likes. My dogs even like a little organic or doggie brand lotion rubbed on the pads of their feet. It's good to do that sometimes if the skin is cracked and it helps develop a trust/bond when you have to find a rock that is stuck in their paws or inspect some other injury!!

By the way, how do you know he's stressed? Mine get antsy when they are hungry and they know their schedule so sometimes they are irritated right before meal time. Or if they need water. Or if they really have to go to their bathroom: the great outdoors!
Otherwise if they are stressed from loud noises or thunder or owners arguing, try to stop the source of stress. For a thunderstorm, try some soothing music or some other sound to cover the noise. I've heard that using a fabric softener sheet on their fur reduces the static buildup a thunderstorm creates.
Good luck, pup!

Absolutely! Just gently massage all his muscles, especially hips and shoulders. It's a great bonding experience too. Some dogs don't like their feet touched, but eventually you should get to the point where he lets you massage him right down to each pad on his foot. There is info out there on canine massage. Google it. :)

I am taking turns with my mother dog-sitting my sister's Maltese, Madison while she is in Iraq. He LOVES it when I gently massage the sides of his temples, and put light pressure moving in circles (limbs in between both hands while circling) on all four limbs and going up and down on his back. Make sure you keep an even rhythm and go softly while you talk to him/her. The dog will let you know what she/he does or does not like and you will learn how to make them at peace by just doing it and learning by experimenting.

Vet. Tech again, have your dog lay on the floor or couch, wherever he/she is comfortable. Start by gently rubbing his/her sides in circles. After he is still you can move to rubbing the ears and then stroking his vertibrea down toward the tail, not from the tail to the head. All of this attention should help. Also talk softly while doing all this.

My dog Jack (part lab) at any given time backs up to me and then sits down. I rub his back and talk with him, doing his sides the same way. When he decides he has had enough he gets up and walks away. It's like a calm down time for him. Try this for your dog perhaps it will work for your dog as well. We all want our dogs happy, they are like children so we treat them right and with respect to.

Well, I'd leave him alone and let him rest alot! I mean what is thee realy for a dog to be stressed about? If his nose is dry then call his vet and if it's wet then rub his belly gently and let him rest! My dog, Yoda loves that!

Try brushing your dog. That almost always works on my dog. The rest of the time, I just rub his ears. If he groans, I know he likes it.
