I'm a Christian and science has a place in our world, a crucial place. I believe God wants us to understand how things work, where they come from, what purpose they serve. He wants us to gain knowledge. I also do not believe that He is offended as many would lead us to believe at our desire to learn. He rejoices at that. What is important to God is that we believe in Him and live our lives in Christ's example as best we can. Science is NOT the be all end all but I have yet to hear anyone, particularly scientists, tell me that. To turn a blind eye to knowledge is ignorant and I think God deplores ignorance, particularly intentional ignorance.

If religious people are the "only people holding this country together," why are they the ones who have divided us about the war, about gay marriage, about stem-cell research? The atheists are not the ones who have made these things into "hot-button" issues. It's the people with the Bible verses on their signs who have done that.
When was the last time an atheist shot a doctor at his workplace?
Religion is not the answer. Religion divides people. Religion justifies doing horrible things because it is "god's will."
Listen, science has never presumed to have all the answers. It is religion that claims to have those bases covered. Yet, thousands of years later, blood is still spilled because people cannot agree on which book is "holier." If that's "all the answers," I'm proud to admit that I don't know much.

science is not worshipped, just like u cant worship history or math. and just because u give an ****** science training doesnt make him an atheist nor a man of science. next, religion does not stop the ****** either.
athiest dont consider themselves to be God, they dont go about pursuing thier own pleasure, and they dont hate people who are religious.
as for ur last statment, was that a mistake when u said religious people will continue working hard to make sure they have a country to freely express their HATE, or are u just that hateful

No one "worships" science. Because some people only believe in evolution does not mean that they think of science as a god. Some atheists are upstanding citizens - their private lives have nothing to do with anything bad.
Now let's look at this another way: some KKK members, neo-nazis, etc, consider their beliefs as religions. They do horrid things, and often are not even caught.
As far as Hollywood goes, many celebrities do have religions. Some practice within the Jewish faith; some are good Catholics; some are members of Protestant denominations; some are Buddhists, and I'm sure that some are members of other religions.
Many of those people who kill, steal, and hate are members of a church, temple or synogogue. That also applies to adultry, coveting, and taking the Lord's name in vain.

I like to think of it this way. Atheists don't believe that god exists, it's that simple. Just because we don't believe doesn't mean that we're all bad people. As such, it is not the believers holding the country together as it is the people who actually have a sense of morality, religious or not. As for the whole crimes thing, that's human nature and cannot be helped. Science can help as it is the way to improve methods of catching these criminals. So to answer your question of worship, no. I agree it's a tool, but even I don't worship my power drill.

I do not drive too fast, even if i don't agree with the rules. I give too much change back to the girl behind the counter in the supermarket. When i find a wallet on the street, i return it to the owner without expecting a reward ,because the relief on your face is worth more to me than money. In a bar i'll talk to you, when you are standing alone. I will never jugde or disrespect you on your looks, not even on your charactre.
And i do that without any God telling me to do that
I give to charity, i seperate my garbage for a better environment. I rather put on an extra sweater, than to put up the heater. I never throw my chewing-gum on the street. Every week i buy the paper from a homeless person. I will help and support you if you're attacked by drunken guys on the street, i'll avoid the fight, but i'll never leave you alone. I help the old lady cross the street, i'll bring the crying lost little girl back to her mother.
And i do that without any God telling me to do that
I know no rules, except my own thoughts. After thinking everything through, i have to conclude that there must be 'something' to make this all happen. I've looked around and inspite of all the misery, the poorness, the crime, the hate, i don't see humans as sinners, but as people with choices. I don't think that i will be lost if i do not meditate on a mountain or pray under a cross. I don't even believe that the guy who blows himself up between a group of schoolkids will burn eternally.
And i think that without any God telling me to think that
Every person has something good inside. Sometimes on the surface, sometimes deep hidden inside. I hope that the God they all talk about, is not the guy with the beard sitting on a cloud. The God i have faith in, is just a metaphore. A feeling. A sence of all the goodness inside the people. Nothing more than that. And more clear: nothing less than that. The goodness in our heart is the most important thing we have. My God has an extra 'O'...Good.
And i am good, without any God telling me that
Good has no need for symbols. No cross, no boring books, no big fat guy, no cow, no buildings with colored glass windows. Good is everywhere and is eternal. There is no need to pray for something good, because it will always be there. There is also no need to pray to end something bad, because the bad will also always be there. Sure there are bad people. These people are to dumb to understand the good. Goodness, kindness can relieve you. Badness only creates more badness. We can never beat the badness. A bad guy with a gun can only be beaten by a good guy with a gun. But a good guy doesn't use a gun.
And even if the Good will always loose, I'll always try to be Good.
Everything has its time, and its place. In our sadness, in our anger, in our happyness, in our love we can see our humanity. These things make us to be the people we are, they shape us, they teach us, they make us really feel. And in every deep misery, there is always a hidden hope, cause we all know anything can always be done differently. This earth is our playground, to feel, to laugh, to cry, to love and to live.
And i live. And that's good.

Atheists do not worship science. We don't worship anything. Atheism is the lack of worship.
We live and die without expectations for the afterlife and without diety worship.
We work we contribute to society just as much as religious people.
As far as your whole wife-beating theory goes, I'm willing to bet there are far more religious wife-beaters than atheists. Religious fanatics seem to be a lot more confrontational than us.
How many Atheists do you see running through the street with an AK-47 yelling "JIHAD"?

I think you answered your own question with "I think not." Are you just looking for someone to agree with your view?
Religious people are the only people holding this country together is an utterly ridiculous statement. What is your basis for that statement?
Your ill-informed opinion is both divisive and provocative. Have you ever thought that religion and science can co-exist?
Everything in moderation.

Seems to me you are the one hating. Atheists don't worship science they just don't believe in a higher being. There are plenty of atheists fighting for our country. As for science not explaining why people do bad things, in many cases it does explain it. I don't expect others to believe what I do, I don't try to convince others to believe what I do. Since my husband is catholic I am pretty sure I don't have a problem with people choosing their own beliefs and practicing them.

Only the Lord can save you from Hell. Once you read the ten commandments, you realize how evil your intentions are. You need the Lord to draw you out of your evil intentions and actions every day.
Science cannot even address this critical issue being a study of natural law for the purpose of man manipulating nature.
